Check out this tank! - Did some fun trading locally today. From what others have said from the pics they think this is a 1940 Dayton. What does anyone else think? The frame is pretty much toasted the way the rear end is bent up. But that tank is still beautiful!!! There might be a few parts I can salvage but most everything is frozen.

So the tank might fit an Elgin?

Cool find Fish, it's amazing the tank survived as well as it did based on the rest of that poor bike. Tank's gotta be worth something.
 
No, it's not related to Elgin at all. The Elgin long tanks are a good bit different than this. This is a 1940 or 41 Dayton or Huffman.

Yeah, I am shocked how solid and dentless the tank is when you look at the rear of the frame and the cranks. All of the money is definitely in the tank.
 
Yeah, that is most likely what it did look like. That stripe is ghosted under the rust on my tank. Maybe even that color.
