So, I don’t have a 26” ape hanger, banana seat bike.

This is it.

For kicks, I’m Going to do a funky military/flying tiger tribute bike out of it. I think the enormous tank will lend itself nicely to the jaws and eyes.

We’ll see!

Here’s the beginning

As I’m not in a hurry on this bike, winter will be here in upstate before you know it, so, I’d like to get the body work done (just pound out some dents) and get the thing 100% painted and save parts sourcing and assembly for winter.

Tore it apart, had it sandblasted, washed and degreased it and hit it with primer.

As I’m always budget minded on these builds, I bought the cheapest primer I could for the first coat.

Mistake!!! Stuff went on like colored water. I’m going to do the dents, sand, then spray with a quality white primer.

Note on the original, I hated to peel off the super unique “dirty patina” but I’ve got plenty of patina bikes. -one note on the original in its “scored condition” - the one-red, one-white grips have grown on me.

As I thought it looked ridiculous when I picked up, looking at the pic’s, the mixed grips actually look pretty cool!

Meh....

Put some color on it and got my decals in.

Definitely love how it’s coming together.

I will put pinstripes on the edges of the green to clean the lines up.

The large tank devoured the 7” x 4” mouth.... as the decals are relatively inexpensive, I’m actually thinking of shelving these and going the next size up.

Any input??

Those decals definitely need to be bigger
Thanks CA! I couldn’t wait. I’m right with you! I ordered a new set and actually went 2 sizes up.

Like 12” x 7”. I’d rather trim a little and have the whole tank filled out than to have it undersized.

We’ll see what it looks like when it gets here!

The larger decal I’m guessing will be harder to apply due to the large area and the curves in the tank.

May have to use a heat gun. We’ll see.

@Jude Ephesus, what's the name of the green and brand paint used?
Thanks @hamppea . I hope you are doing well.

I’m still logging about 100 miles a week, but not quite the frequency (or distances) we were doing in August.

I’m back on the trek 3900 with like one ride a week on the western flyer.

The paint is just Lowe’s rattle can rustoleum. It’s a satin, but is a bit glossier than I had planned.

It’s all good. I put red 1/4” pinstripes on the tank area green to straighten it up.

Doing well, thanks! Riding about what your are. Spent part of the afternoon stripping a bike and had to get in at least 10 miles it was so nice.

Love the concept! Didn't have an honest opinion earlier about sizing. Couple of years ago I made a template with magic markers. The idea was to make a 3D plate with cut layers of red/white/black plastic sheets.

Generally speaking with nose art you want to really fill that space. Make the mouth and eye as big as reasonable

Just for fun
