Picked this up on trade. Gonna slap a new chain on, service hubs, and seal with linseed oil. Pretty sure the seat, pedals and chain guard are not original. Still a very cool rat rod!

Cool bike. Who built it - AMF? Columbia? Ross?
Looks different than some Murray space bikes of earlier 1960's.
Cool Green Western Flyer Grips.

Someone told me it was a Murray. Don’t know for sure though

Looks like a pretty old Murray in great condition to me. Right downtube bends, right rim type, canti tubes added to earlier seat stay type, known maker of Western Auto bikes. Check frame and rims for MO markings.

Yup. The bottom letters and numbers are hard to make out. Definitely saw the MO marking. I thought it was built around 1967 but a couple of guys have said late 1950s early 1960s. Don’t know. All I know is it is a really cool old cruiser!

I've never seen (or neglected to notice) the cantilevers attached so far back, not under the top tube, but to the rear seat stays. Perhaps Western Auto was such a good customer that Murray accommodated such minor design changes?
Wait a minute, just looked at my bike, they were not merely attached, they were usually extensions of the seat stays!

I believe by 1967 the front end of the cantilevers were attached to the outer sides of the down tube, (not the top/rear). Interesting frame.

That’s why I am now thinking it is late 1950s or early 1960s. It does look like a middleweight from the mid 1960s.

Finally got it buttoned up. Serviced hubs and installed s new chain. Treated rust with inhibitor and sealed with boiled linseed oil. Patina really pops on this bike. Tires are Schwinn 26x1.75. Gonna keep them on. Listed bike for sale.
