This is the 82 Sidewinder that I traded Clancy (cman) my coppertone 1965 Racer for.

Most folks would have been totally satisfied with Clancy's cleaning job, it was great...but yall know I have issues.

I figured while I had it taken apart after shipping I would go over it and give it the fine tooth comb treatment.

I swapped out a Tioga one piece crank that I had and I plan to install a gold anodized 45T chainring and a set of gold bear trap pedals. I also ordered some new yellow brake cable casings and plan to add all new cables.

Here's what the bike looks like so far...I can gaze at these wheels for hours.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER

WOW>....Looks even better. Did you clean the grips?

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER

While I was washing the bike down before the wax job I decided to hit the grips with a scrub brush and soap and they cleaned right up.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER

Finally I see rust on one of RatRod's bikes. I'm in total shock!

I noticed that too...an now it's not there anymore.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER

Nice, but it's not a Coppertone..... :( :(

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER -- (10/28)

Now the biggest question........ are you going to ride it? Get new brake pads.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER -- (10/28)

That is a good question.

I'm kind of like you not wanting to mess up the anodizing...ha ha.

It looked good out in the sun on Saturday...

Added a couple of new decals that a cool guy over on schwinnbikeforum.com sent me. :D

Ha Ha...I was waiting for someone to point that out...figured it would be Clancy first.

I ran out a few months back and want to get some gold ones for this bike.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER -- (11/01)

Do they make a clear brake pad (like the ones on trial bikes) that fit caliper brakes? They 'may' be easier on the ano since less braking pressure would be needed.

Just thinkin' out loud...

BTW, this bike is AMAZING !!

Cheers,
Dr. T

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER -- (11/01)

I did read how the clear pads are supposed to be easier on the anodizing.

I have seen some Kool Stop clear pads on Ebay that would probably work with these brakes.

Just need to save up the $40 for the pads.

Re: 82' SCHWINN SIDEWINDER -- (11/01)

Brake pads- you could always try the felt ones for exercise bikes. :D :D

It had gold cable ends at one time. Sorry they are not resuable.
