I have been away from bikes for a while and my brother in law decided I needed to
build him a bike with a motor. I thought when he called and asked information about
what route to take , he was just wanting information....Wrong. I suggested a company
and they had high reviews on their 4 cycle kit. So today he send me an email saying he
bought the kit I suggested and had it sent to my house. So much for him building it.
I never built one with a motor, and know very little. The only good thing is I can redesign
a frame and sticking a motor on one shouldn't be out of the realm of my capabilities.

Today I visited my good friend Chuck and he gave me a Schwinn Heavy Duti. Its in pretty
good shape and some of the old timers around here know I love to cut a Schwinn. So I have
it and then a Schwinn he gave me once that I stretched. Both are good candidates.
So as soon as the kit arrives, I will choose a frame and start tearing things up.

This is very weird...I literally had a dream last night about riding around on a motorized bicycle.

I could only ride it around on a couple of streets because there was ice on the ground.

Pretty weird.

Thats funny Steve. I had a dream about someone trying to drown
my dog.
Thanks DW I am going to try and learn all I can before the kit
gets here. Kinda like when I bought my Mac. Will try not to make
too many mistakes. The kit says you can build it in 2 hours.
Humm really?

Not really doing anything till I get some parts. Dreamed a little.
Found a new Worksman rear rim I had that will go good with
a motor.

If using a coaster brake, the brake arm must be solidly locked in place. Those huffy brake arm bands will not cut it!
3 brakes. I prefer disc, but realize that could be a bit much! And of course a coaster brake.
Most importantly the operator must be instructed on correct ejection techniques....cause cars, well they are angry beasts and kill little bicycles.

Not sure Steve. I think he has gone some. He was up towards
Austin a week ago. He didn't stop by your dad's though.
Mikie I have no experience with bike motors. This will be
a first for me. I downloaded the 14 page how to that comes
with the motor kit and I will try to follow it. Should be able
to get one going....I hope.

Its funny the guys in plants lean on their bikes with the
kickstand down and it breaks them off of the frame. The
bike Chuck gave me was one done that way. I'm not sure
if I will use the frame, or just the parts, but I played with
it today. I welded a small plate to the tubes by the BB and
then cleaned out the bearings and put it back together. Felt
like old times. Had yellow but not Schwinn yellow. Oh well

Well got the kit and started building it. Somewhere it said you
could build this in two hours. Yeah right. I spent two hours
putting that sprocket on the back wheel. I had a new Worksman
rear wheel and decided to use it. Got the three piece crank installed
and the one tube cut out. Still need to build some gussets and
weld the motor mount on. Its going to be a slow build so I don't
mess anything up.

Well since I had to remove a bar, I added a couple gussets. I had
fun welding. Welded the front of the motor mount because their mount
was at the wrong angle. Hope its in the right place. The part I didn't miss
was all the grinding grit/dust. I remember why I stopped doing this.
So now to strip the rest of the dreaded Schwinn plastic paint off and then
I'm getting closer to done.

heya uncle stretch,
good to see you building again!
i have never done a motorized bike before but it looks like you are on the right track.
cannot wait to see it done.

Yeah I looked at all the kits and this one was a little more
expensive. but had pretty good reviews. I think my brother
in law paid close to $400 with shipping. He is going to try to
ride it to his work, and it had to be 49cc or less to be street
legal. That is only 2HP I think. Hope it has enough power.
