I’m in!
Ok just got this nice Hawthorn frame delivered from a eBay purchase.
And the killer Beehive fork from @macncheese along with a cool/weird plastic “gas tank” that I may or may not use. I been thinking about what the final paint scheme will be. But now looking at both the frame and fork they have such cool paint and patina.
Well don’t need to figure that out now.
Still thinking of ideas on this one.. “Got to listen to the parts”
I might not even put fenders on this one.
Thanks for looking, more soon.

Welcome to the build off! Looks like you've got some great bones to work with there.
RaT oN~!

Killer! It's always great to see you in the mix!!
Build number 85 too.
I agree that the current paint on both frame and fork go well and look equally aged.

Thanks for all the love guys.
i think I figured out my wheel set. Wide 26” 12g spokes with Nexus 8 speed and both wheels will have roller brakes.
Good news lots of clearance for the wide rims. Not so good news just figured out the eBay frame has a left side seat-stay with a bend.
I think with some heat and pressure I can bent it back.
I’m liking how it looks sitting on the wheels. I will try flipping the fork dropouts to see how it looks.
Thanks for looking.

Love those wheels. Are they 60mm or 80mm?

I agree with OJ, use a little Sheldon Brown 2x4 frame alignment muscle and you should be good to go.

A little '2 x 4 cold forging' should fix that seat stay. It's steel, if you bring it, it will bend.

I was able to bend the seat-stay back into place. Still a dent were it was hit but good enough. For sure some thick wall steel. Took quite a few blows.
wheels are 60 mm they fit with lots of room both front and back.
Thanks for looking

Not much of a update.. but finished lacing the front wheel. Love how the wheels look on the bike. I’m totally digging the 12g spokes they really look great not sure they show up in the photos.
I promised myself I would finish a couple bike projects before totally focusing on this one. So going to set it aside for a few weeks and look at it and gather some more parts. Updates to come fairly soon!
Thanks for looking.

Love the crown of those rims. Can't wait to see tires on them.
Looking good!

Wow! This thing is gonna be epic!
I had a Hawthorn years ago, I forgot all about till I saw this....
Mine was a hand me down that wobbled all over, Wish I had it now.
Nice so far can’t wait to see it finished.

Thanks for the positive vibes guys!
Had to wait a couple weeks for my wide rim strips before mounting the tires. Tonight after work got the tires mounted and I’ve been playing with handle bar and stem setups.. Think I found a perfect bar/stem and riding position.
Thanks again for looking

You know flipping the rockers will stick that front wheel out a few inches and lower you just a bit. The rockers also gotta swap sides too when you do it, so that it all clears. But if ya don't no worries cuz that looks good as is. Chicago TailDraggers roll bro.

Carl.

Thanks Carl I do plan on flipping the rockers and seeing how it looks.. my only concern was it might make the tire hit the top of the fork. The bike is sitting a little high in front. I’ll flip it around tomorrow and see how much clearance I have.
Missing all the Chicago TailDraggers.
