For build #9 I'm using this Schwinn DeLuxe American because I like the look of it and I'm tired of moving it around in my garage. When I got it it had been sitting in the same spot for 20 plus years and the rims were crumblerusty. Here's a few shots with another item I've threatened to toss many times, a '60's kids seat.

Here's where the dad part comes in.

Here we go...

cool kids seat and bike this will be a cool build!!

Cool starting point. My mom used to ride around with me in a kids chair like that. No helmet, no seat belt, and I turned out just fine. And the voices in my head are just fine too.

Me too! My seat had a seatbelt, though. It was the enlightened 70's, though, not the dark ages of the 60's. ;)

Nice buildin'

Well like I mentioned before this bike had been sitting out a long time so some of the parts wouldn't go quietly, so they required a bit of force. I had worked on this bike a while ago and wanted to change the seat height (I'm 6'2") but the post would have no part of that, so I ended up with this.

Yeah I used every method, product, chemical... but noooo! So I got a bigger piece of pipe, crimped the end

and added a seat clamp

Then I cut a slit in the bottom of the "post" so it would give a bit and be able to tighten up to the existing stump

With this post being bigger than usual, I needed a custom fitting post clamp, so I took one from my supply (Hey cool! Its blue!) Ground down the sides and had to drill new holes so the bolt could fit around the stump

Mounted the post to the stump(Actually hammerd it down) bolted on the new clamp and attached the original seat.

I like to use as much of the original bike as possible with some builds. Lucky I had no problems with the pedals and crank but I think the goose neck and fork are gonna be trouble.

I did some bike shopping this last weekend and got this blue girl along with 3 others and since she's blue I think I'll make her a doner bike for 'Dad'.

Hopefully it won't give me any trouble like my American.
