I decided to make a false set of Araya Pro Class wheels. Over the years I’ve been drawn to bikes with dimpled rims!
I have a few sets of CMC wheels so why not give it a shot.
Here’s what I’m starting with. Nice little medium high flanged front hub and a Shimano D-Type coaster for the rear. Spokes are rusted but straight and the front hub. needs new bearings

Its a chrome steel wheel and I don’t know what it does to the strength of the wheel under my weight. No trail riding just basic cruising.

I used a stepped down bit and a 4x4 with a pilot hole drilled. But only went up to 1/2 inch, but it was just right for what I needed.

Removed shavings with a file.

A little hand polish for the surface rust. It came out way better than I expected to be honest.

And for the weight weenies the wheel lost only 26 grams [emoji57]

Still need to do the other wheel and lace them back up with cleaned up spokes and hubs. Stayed tuned.

Genius!

Speed holes in the hub, good choice. :)

wow, that's some nice work. You are patient and thorough. Very admirable.

Small update: finished up the hubs and rims!
I should’ve put more time into polishing the rims but it’ll do.
Still working on cleaning up the spokes and replacing the broken ones.
In between all the honey-do’s and kids needing attention I try to put in bicycle time. But I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with this little project.

I finally got the back wheel built, I’ll have the front done sometime this weekend.
I reused the old dirty spokes and didn’t like it. I took the wheel apart again and painted the spokes black.

It didn’t come out looking great but it’s better then it looked before.

Edit: To go with the faux theme I threw on some “carbon fiber”. To make it lighter and faster of course.
