Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

build what you like man but i'll throw a couple pennies in the koi pond ... i like the apes and the backrest combo

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

I'll play with it more.

FORKS
I am pretty certain I like the new forks better. I plan to wrap them like I did the chainguard. I think that will give a little continuity to the bike (plus it allows me to put more beer cans on the bike.

BARS
As much as I like the red reverse bulls, I think I like the apes better.

BACKREST
This really changes the lines of the bike dramatically and it is definitely a little "freaky". As freaky as it is, I think I like it. It might even be taller than Scooby Snack's (but NO SEAT or seat back could be as cool as his!!!).

WHEELS
The 20s are looking cool and it does give the bike an edgier, but freaky look. It is still a toss up for me between the 20s and the 24s. I even tried 24 in the back and 20 in the front, but that really didn't work because it would have been chrome rim back and black rim front.

Keep the comments coming in. I really do appreciate the honest feedback. Sometimes it helps to see things through other's eyes.

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

IMO I LIKE THE FIRST BETTER. NUFF SAID PEACE

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

I like the second.but without the backrest.
But I also like the first....good luck! :D

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

Hey Kingfish,

Make sure you do what you want to do.
I didn't think I would, but I like the 20" better with the apes and back board
Edgier, as you say

Don't think too about it too much and go with your gut feeling.

Good Luck

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

Go with whatever turns you on! I like them all. BTW looks like there's a little kid peeing in your pond in the background!

Funny you should say that. Growing up, my brother and I always called him "Pee Boy" when my grandparents had him in a bird bath. When I hooked him up in our koi pond, it was the first time he took a leak in 30 years and he hasn't stopped peeing since.

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Opinions Needed

Thanks for all of the feedback.
I still don't know what I want to do.
I like the old look, but I also like the challenge of making a backrest out of a skateboard.
I guess we will find out after I play around more tomorrow.
If the 5 liter keg makes it, I may become a cooler on the back of the rack.

Re: BEER RUN - Radical Change - Nasty Drunk

Well here goes nothing. It's going to be a long day.
Still undecided on the wheels (and may have another option on those).
But I am going with the edgier stance of the apes, forks, and backrest.
The edgier look is changing this from a casual run to the beer store bike into a Nasty Drunk (but I am keeping the old name).
I just hope the 5 liter keg gets here!
Wish me luck

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

LUNCH BREAK

Found a couple of items at yard sales this morning for future builds without even thinking abut BEER RUN.
Chandelier tube mount that I thought would be a cool shifter one day and a car steering wheel.

Well, after seeing the parts and pulling BEER RUN out, I decided to play around a bit.

And then with the skateboard backrest

I even borrowed some 26x3 tires and rims from a friend stretch rde, but unfortunately, they just won't fit on this frame without major work.

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

OK ... I'm Happy you finally have a PBR can on this build .... Though that steering wheel was from left field .. didn't see that coming....
My Opinion... if you go with Apes or Steering Wheel , you almost need to do the backrest.....
CRAZY Build I'm digging it ....

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

I liked that bike too, but after after mocking up the steering wheel and backrest I reverted back to childhood.
The BEER RUN with the low bars was a great bike for a 50 year old man to go to the beer store.
I am now channeling the 15 year old me that had outgrown his Sears Screamer 2 with the 26" fork and 16" front wheel.
This is the bike he would want me to build. A wacky version of a muscle bike.
Pics to follow soon.

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

You got that 5 litre keg in and you DRANK it, didn't ya?

Seriously, I kinda like it! If you look at the pic, you can see what will bring this all together nicely. The backrest and the front forks and either the steering column and wheel, or apes all at the same angle, with the seat tube. Your eyes focus on the parallel lines perfectly. GET GOING!

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

Kota, I was just looking at the new photos and telling my wife the exact same thing.
Pics following next.

Re: BEER RUN - Nasty Drunk DUI Steering

You didn't answer the part about the 5 litre ...I'm thinking I was "right".

Re: BEER RUN - BackRest Mounting

I am very pleased that my idea on how to mount the backrest worked like a champ.

I cut three angled holes in the seatboard and then cut three oposing fingers in the backboard.

It wedges in so good and tight that it really makes a very strong joint. I don't really need any bracing at all. (even though I will probably add three small angle brackets out of sight underneath just for good measure.

I missed that. It kinda looks like I did drink 5 Liters of beer this morning, doesn't it.
Unfortunately, the keg can never made it today.

Here are the photos of todays work.

There are a couple of photos with the 20s still on. I switched back to the 24s. Much better vibe.

Steering column made of chandelier parts and beer cans.
