so how do you think that works?Shaft drive with a horizontal gear in the back and the side of the rim has notches to put power to the rear wheel?How else would you be able to do that?

Maybe it drives from a roller against the tire tread.

I seem to remember seeing a hubless build somewhere.... maybe BR&K? :|

Ian has a point, watch "The Flying Scotsman," the guy who designed this bike made his record breaking track bike by taking bearings from a washing machine and making it his bottom bracket. If that's not ratrod, I don't know what is :D
 
ya know, I frequently do that, mix up Obree and Boardman. I'm a ........
