Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-7/27 Decals Applied

The lens isn't looking to bad today. If it does fog over after the oil dries, I'll just paint it like a blood shot 8 ball eyeball.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-7/27 Decals Applied

The decals that I printed from our office printer had fingerprints from me handling the paper. Plus they had a bit too much red compared to the primer. Printed out a set at home last night and sprayed both sets with three coats of matte clear and let it dry overnight. I'll use the redder ones for my winged helmet.

Cut the decals out and started with the nanner. PERFECT color match to the primer. THANKS GLEN!!!

Then I did the tank halves. If you look close there are some tiny cracks from me pulling a bit hard when sliding the decal from the paper. They aren't even noticable though when you look at it in the light.

Got the badge applied to the light too. I skewed the badge a bit to give it the same slanted feel that I gave the Firewing logo.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 7/27Decals+SpringerNanner+SplitBalls

Glad you guys are diggin my sexy decals and colors!

While I am waiting for 12 hours before I mount anything with decals on it, I worked on buttoning up the rear of the bike.
Added all of the painted nuts and screws to attache the Elgin skirts, Firewing skirts, and Nanner support braces.

WP_002523_zps54854262.jpg

Then I started the Nanner Springer assembly

Cut down a piece of 5/16" threaded rod to make the nanner slide guide bolt. This will set loose and allow the nanner to move up and down.

No worries mate... I used this swatch from the internet for colour picking in photoshop...

The decals look great. I didn't know decal paper was available for home printing. :? Not sure if we can get it down here in NZ... will have to investigate.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 7/27Decals+SpringerNanner+SplitBalls

You nailed it with the color and the styling on the logo. It's also a way cool story telling people that a mate in New Zealand helped me with the logo!!
The decal paper that I used is Testors. Here it is on Amazon where I bought 5 half sheets for $10.

Re: FireWing 53Columbia7/27DecalsSpringNannerFlyBallsHelmetWings

It's been a busy day. It was all I could do to fit it all in the title and there is some stuff I didn't even post.

The Flying 8 Ball Fender Badge is turning out pretty cool if you ask me.

Cut out some helmet wings from some corrugated signage. I am gonna paint these and logo them, but only plan to velcro or bolt them on when we have the Savannah Bicycle Campaing Midnight Garden Ride Custome Contest.

Glad you found a use for the wings, I love that you think in 3D.

Re: FireWing 53Columbia7/27DecalsSpringNannerFlyBallsHelmetWings

WOW this bike is just getting better and better!!!!!!

Re: FireWing 53Columbia7/27DecalsSpringNannerFlyBallsHelmetWings

Thanks guys. Did a little more work tonight indoors.

I put a RRB stick on the tank top tube accent piece that I made. The red sticker was too red. I am not sure how well this plays with the rest of the bike. I may end up removing the sticker. I definitlely like the trim piece.
WP_002555_zps0d4d30bf.jpg

I put the red RRB sticker on the back of the helmet.
WP_002558_zps69e8b474.jpg

I also played around with the painted costume wings.
WP_002559_zpsee24c97c.jpg

And I found these two wine stoppers and thought one might make a cool helmet spike. I am leaning towards the chrome one.

Re: FireWing 53Columbia7/28 Tins On RedFork Plus

I love these Columbia springers, but I have always felt they blend in too much when they are one color. So, yesterday I painted the rear section of the springer primer red.

I traded some rat traps for this HUGE mudflap last year. It's the perfect shade of dirty creme, but way too big. Cut a portion off. We'll see if it makes the cut on the front or back.

Drilled the tail light mounting plate to accept the compression nuts.

Used some clear epoxy to mount the tail light marble. The way this thing magnified the light is way cool.
