Look into linseed oil, it preserves it but it also dries.

Is there a difference between linseed and boiled linseed oil?

I've been using Pledge furniture polish with nice results.

Boiled linseed oil is what I use, pledge is actually a wax remover where linseed oil forms a layer like wax.

KF, glad to see you intend to keep the patina. 8)

I think it's similar to the difference between roasted peanuts and bald peanuts. :D

Forks and rack have paint too. On to those next. Then we'll see about the chainguard.
I don't think there is any paint on the fenders.

Depending on how bent up the brushes are they might be fixable. Soak them in 3 in 1 oil and reshape them the best you can. Leave em in a safe place overnight and reapply the 3 in 1 the next morning. Hopefully your brush will retain the shape and you can clean it out with mineral spirits. :D Also, reshaping the tip for a finer line is best with a fingernail clipper!

I may give that a try after I get the seller to send me another set.

This thing has SO much potential! Can't wait to see it come alive.

Piece by piece I am trying to pull that potential out. It all depends on my execution.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star DeLuxe - New Color

Cleaned up the chainguard. I had a feeling that it wasn't original to the bike and was a red instead of black. I love the color though and think I have found my accent color. It is a deep brownish red (almost a ron burgundy) and plays well with the black. It also matches well with the Electra skirt guards if I use those and age them a bit.

Here you go

I have ideas about adding two words that are missing from this statement

You can barely see the outline of a circle and 3 stars. Does anyone have a pic of what this graphic looks like?

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star DeLuxe - Brass Forks????

Thanks guys! Next it was time to work on the fork. The black came out nice on this. The white graphics too.

I discovered something very interesting about this fork. I think the beefy piece of the fork is made out of brass!!!! Not brass paint, but brass!! Can anyone confirm this about the Columbia springers?

Earlier I had a Rogue Bacon Maple Donut Ale, so this evening I kept up with the smoky beers and had this German Rauchbier (smoke beer).
Here you go.

Here are some of the shots that show the brass peeking through.

Even the steer tube is brass. I sanded away some of the golden ticket paint and its brass underneath.

Stick a magnet to it.

Smart idea. Magnet sticks. It must be some alloy or coating. Interesting.

Brass filler or brass from brazing.

But there is evidence of it the entire length of the fork. Plus I sanded down pretty good on the steer tube and the brass is part of the tube itself.
