I have finally found my inspiration for a build (or at least part of it)! I am going to base my rat off this old 5 speed Atom wheel w/ a drum brake! Now all I have to do is find a suitable donor frame! I have a few other parts that I will use dynamo generator, and an atom front drum, if I can manage to procure it from the local recycled bike shop!

Re: Parts is Parts

sorry, thought id help out, looks like ya got the hang of it tho. nice stuff, ive never messed with a drum brake myself.

The drum brake should be cool. I am going to try a 5spd drum on my bike too. Lightly sand the brake shoes to remove any old glaze.

more madness

Well I still haven't found a frame as of yet... I am going to look at one tonight, hopefully it will work! I plan on picking up the front drum brake tomorrow after work! In the mean time, I have decided that I need to "make" a working brake light for this build! don't ask it came to me as I was trying to get to sleep the other night. Here is a pic of the switch.

Now for a little more inspiration... you may recognize this rendering. James Dean's 550 Porsche Spyder. I hope I can pull off the slick bright silver paint job.

Well, I'm off to track down a frame!

Got the front wheel last night! And I got a line on an old cantelever frame w/ reverse drop outs, maybe a springer front...
I will post pix tonight tonight after I get off work... I think I have the brake light figure out!

I have most of the components, pieces and parts to continue with the build!
Finally managed to locate a frame!

I have found that the fenders and tires are too wide for the fork and frame :x
I have started polishing all the little bits. Fenders will need to be worked a bit, since I can't alter the rear chain stays for the tires I will have to find something else to roll on. I hope to have the seat done tomorrow. I will try to mock everything up tonight and snap a shot or two... Still trying to figure out the working brake light.... should be interesting if I can pull it off.

U could run an converter to run the 3 piece crank..I don't know the real name for the part, but it converts a 1 piece crank to 3

Nice collection of parts- fender especially.

How are you going to mount that derailer with the correct dropout? Find an old derailer off a cheap bike that has the converter would be one way.

wow, all kinds of cool parts! That orange leather should look good with the fenders. Those brake levers are crazy looking.

if you like the leather wait until I post pics of the finished rims! the fenders are going to get a new coat of paint! Even though they almost go with the orange leather for the seat, etc... Everyone is doing a great job, lost of great ideas out there!
