I have a NOS S/A drum brake that looks pretty much like this, laced to a new 26" rim key for a clunker build...I could throw in 2 '89 Marin Rock Star tires and it would be a good start building your dream clunker! We could trade for pfffffffff I don't know...the skull bike?

I mean the tires are maybe a little too new...but the whole look is the little drum brake, right?

I love these things too....still trying to decide if they belong in the "OTHER BIKES" section or not. :?

Or?

How about building a new school old Clunker with all period parts...but use a skull skates frame?

So many build options...so little time/money

P.S. Ya Clunkers kinda fit 'other' bikes alright.

oh, and Socal_Jack that Schwinn is looking gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I apologize if I posted this thread in the wrong section.
It's ok with me if you move it.

Hooch and Ratfink, thanks. I'll keep it updated still got some parts ccoming in.

Another one of these but alot more $$$ and alot further away, that's about what they MSRP'd for back in the day I think. Kinda felt bad when I got mine the wife put it up on CL and pretty much sold it out from under him, but he was cool. So dudes, keep an eye on that bee-otch.

Here is my contribution to the klunker topic... It is a 40-ish Prewar Schwinn DX with Hawthorn or Monarch(I think) dual springer fork, 1980 Sturmey three speed and drum brakes front and rear. The hubs are laced up to old school 26in BMX aluminum rims. The bike also has vintage BMX cruiser aluminum bars and Race-Face aluminum 3-piece cranks, buckskin Parsons springer seat and repop rear rack to keep the back of my T-shirt clean. later, David http://www.flickr.com/photos/7589739@N05/

Well I got the clunker flu pretty bad... I also suffer from empty-pocket-itis so I started scrounging around the parts bins. Started with a huffy cruiser frame:

found some rims with heavy duty spokes I didnt know I had, a couple big knobbies, an old set of bmx bars, some 70's brake levers and the rest. Came up with this:

still have to adjust everything but I'm diggin it so far. Im lucky enough to have some trails right next to my house so I can REALLY try it out!![/img]

Nice bike Markm! I'm really loving this thread, I see ideas on each and every bike that I wanna steal when I finally get around to building one myself. We're heading into the time of year here when all the mountian bike bums switch into ski bum mode and head north to Park City. I'm hoping I can score an old mountain bike I can cannibalize for clunker parts.

thanx. Im starting to see my diamond frame build bike as a coaster clunker!!

Mark..
I would Throw a Zap Strap around those Caliper Brakes.
( both sides...front and back )
It's a Trick from years ago to stop them from being RIPPED right of the Bridge when Braking hard.
and it works..

Like this below..
and I would do it to your Rear one as well..that's the one that will
be Yarded off quick being it's a Bottom Mount!

That's a Great Looking Clunker BTW..
nice Job Mark,
Kev.

lookie here at Mine,
peace,
Kev.

Had some downtime while waiting for my RRBBO frame to get back from teh welding repairs. So I mocked up my 98 Repop with some pre-war forks. Need to back-off a little on the tire size maybe a 2.2 or 2.3. and need to swap out crown race but here she is, the retro clunker that never was.
