Another build-off and once again, I drew a blank on a name. Basically, I wanted a green bike. My second bike was dark green, probably a rattle can paint job. It was bought for me by my parents from the father of the lady who lived behind us. He built bikes out of old parts. He recycled before it was cool. LOL
Anyway, I wanted another green bike. and like the original, this green bike will not only be painted green, but will also be mostly built of used parts.
That being said, another part of the build is I want a bit of a rusty look to the bike. The big challenge here is I will be using an aluminum frame! :headbang:
Wanting to build something with a bit of old hot rod look to it. Like old hot rods that incorporated parts from different cars but without the deep pockets for finishing the bodywork and a new paint job. Maybe early rat rod.

The frame is from a DelSol Tradewinds cruiser. I paid $40 bucks for it just to get the wheels and Nexus 3 speed for another project.
A Schwinn knock-off springer front fork I bought years ago and haven't found the right bike to use it on
While the parts picture shows blue rims, I am using rusty chrome ones from my Monark Thunderbird (where the DelSol wheels went). The rear was a bit mangled and has taken a lot of tweaking to get it fairly straight again. Tires are a black wall 26x1.75 in the front and a recently converted from white wall 26x2.125 black wall for the rear.
Who knows what other parts will wind up on this bike.

Today I started with the wheels. Getting everything trued up as best I can. Going through the bearings and greasing what still needed greasing. Then rooting through the tire stash to find the right ones to use. Like I said, the rear tire got hit with a couple of coats of Krylon satin black. Flat black would have been better, but satin and gloss were al I had on hand.

H.A. is back in play! Nice pile of parts. I dig those curvy seat stays too!
RaT oN~!

Mr Green Jeans approves this build.

Not sure what year mine is, but it didn't have the same chain guard and curved fender braces. Here's a picture of the bikes the day I got them.

This morning I mounted the tires. Scuffed the day old Krylon putting the rear tire on though. A quick touch up with a Sharpie and we're good to go. LOL
The back tire is not only wider than the front, it's also a half inch taller. Helps with that old school hot rod look.
Kinda thinking about a combination Higgins manifold bike and Western Flyer x-53, with the manifold connected to the straight pipes running back and exiting from under the rear rack, and cut off at an angle instead of doubling back like the X-53.

Now my imagination is running wild, thinking a three way mixture of X-53, Colorflow ('cause it's green) and the Jetflow manifold bikes. Think Turducken. With some rat-tastic seasonings to marinate it in. LOL

Since you are looking at manifold tanks...

Since the bike no longer had its 3 speed, I figured it didn't need all those little hooks to route the shift cable. So out came Mr Hacksaw and his buddies the File brothers to do the honors...

I have read that you shouldn't do any major work on an aluminum frame, so I didn't try to remove the leftover nubbins. Did have to do some tweaking in the rear dropout area to get them to work with the narrower rear hub. Nothing major.

Also got the chain guard fitted today. Needed to break out the angle grinder on that one. LOL

Liking that the angle of the fork trusses is close to that of the head tube and upper seat tube. ring adjuster some more? Got the spring adjuster screwed in until it just misses the gooseneck. What would happen if I cut the bolt off flush with the lock nut and screwed the adjuster bolt in until it just misses the gooseneck again?

You're channeling all the right spirits! The three great feathered dinosaur descendents bestow their blessings on this build. :praise:

You should change your build name to Turducken!

Trouble with the back tire. As I was working on the bike Saturday afternoon, I started hearing a hissing noise from the rear tire. I used the tube that was in the tire when I found it. Not sure if it was just time for it to go, or maybe I pinched it when I mounted the tire. Anyway, after sitting flat in the hot sun, the blackwall paint job didn't look so good.
Bought a new tube and a can of black Flex Seal yesterday. Today I was cleaning the paint off the tire with acetone and an old rag. Not sure now, but I may just leave the grubby looking whitewall instead. As long as my OCD doesn't get too wound up with the mismatched tires. LOL

I hope you can keep the big rear / smaller front tire thing going. That really caught my eye. The curves on frame and fork are playing nicely. That 'manifold tank' inspiration has spilled over into my thinking for R.G. as well. Hmmmmmm......

The tire sizes won't bother me, big and little stays, but one blackwall and one whitewall might start working on the bit of OCD I have.
I think the miss matched sidewall colors will add to the rattiness though.

Looking forward to seeing this!

Got the tire remounted tonight. Rubbed some flat brown camo paint onto the blackened whitewalls to tone them down a little more.
Pieced together some copper pipe fittings for a proof of concept manifold and exhaust. Probably should get a couple of new tees without holes drilled through them. Can't wait to get to building the tank.
