OK, here's my findings...your results may differ...
After a wipe down of acetone to remove the existing BLO.Freshly applied water slide decal.

I let it dry for about 24 hours, then 'aged' it with some dark walnut and ebony wood stain..

I let that dry about another day or so and wiped it down with BLO, no damage to the decal or my faux 'ageing'..
