Yes. Sturmey Archer 3-spd/coaster with skip drive. Love this setup. Have had no problems with modifying even-toothed sturmey cogs, but would prefer a better selection of proper-thickness ones which run more quietly....

Modifying 1/2 pitch cogs into 1" pitch cogs is a poor substitute for the proper thing. Inch pitch cogs are not 1/2 pitch with every other tooth missing. Inch pitch is the use of a .625" pitch tooth followed by a .375" space.

Totally agree. Proper cogs make a big difference in performance and life of both the chain and cogs. Some of us ratters are poor to start with so have to be creative, even if it isn't the perfect solution...:cool2:

I see modifying standard pitch cogs to run on a skip tooth as a stop gap. If you do it reasonably well, it will function, but you may see accelerated wear on the cog, chain, main sprocket, or all of the above.

A conversion cog, at least a decent one, will have a different tooth profile and thickness suited specifically for skip tooth use. Ichibike had a bunch of them for awhile, but others may be making them. You'd have to check with them if they have any more. They're worth the money, in my book at least. There's definitely a market for these parts to be made.
