(MBBO Class 2) Ex E Bobbers

Thought I may as well chuck these in the mix as we can have a few builds,
scored four of these E Choppers, the mother load, seeing as I have four,
one red and three orange will keep the red and one of the orange ones as
is. The other two orange jobs will be getting the chop, can't help myself!

Decided to chop them into bobbers or at least closer to looking like a motor
bike. So taking out some rake in the forks with some cuts in the frame then
will shorten the forks to suit, will be doing this to both of them as I made up
a 20inch disk brake rim as well as the bigger front rim. Striped back one frame
today came a part quite well considering the rust that was on them.

You can see the different rake in the pic's below, the front one is how she
came but she will be getting the chop as well!

In there previous life as e bikes these where not too successful, only
200wts so pretty gutless, all the existing electronics are stuffed, so
ex e bikes for now. May get around to seeing if I can get them going
or may pull all the guts out of the hub to get rid of the weight and
just ride them as is, time will tell!

Should see if you could get one running in an ultralite frame...
I do wonder if they would help as a booster to your pedaling?

Lucky scoring 4 of them... I was after one a few years ago. Seems like the electrics seem to go in most of these.As bobbers they would look great,even with 2 strokes in them...

Got the welding done liking the new line of the tank, thought I would like the 20inch front wheel one more but now leaning to the one with the bigger front wheel!

Going to go minimal of the 20inch job, no fenders skateboard deck seat, see how she evolves.

My second entry for MBB 2014, made the seat with a changeable sissy bar.

So chopped the rear fender bobber style and made the little sissy bar removable.

So going to have a go at fake patina on this one, more to come the brown primer base coat!

Bit to go but paint means closer, can see that light at the end of the tunnel!

So the second step in the process of fake patina, sprayed the sections I wanted to look patina-ed with hairspray, then added salt. The idea the salt sticks to the hairsprayed section then a thin coat of top coat over the top.

The plan being after the paint has dried wash then brush off the salt and hopefully left with random sections of the bottom coat showing through!? Never tried this before so we will see how it turns out, the top coat is drying off now. First attempt I used too much salt and too much top coat, backed off this second attempt, read some where less is more!

Week or so to go, who's counting, hope I make it!

I've used bleach water to accelerate rust before but never tried salt. The salt is looking to work well and add a little pitting that the bleach treatment doesn't do. If salt works this well, I have to wonder how well magnesium chloride would work, it seems to corrode things even faster than salt.

Got this one dusted, I'm going for Hot Rod Rat Bobber if there is such a thing,
pretty happy with my attempt at patina, hopefully some more will come on as
I ride her around. Rides okay, bit heavy, I did pull a lot of the guts out of the
electric hub, as you can see used a small front sprocket the lower gearing
helps.

Only recently scored this chunky spot light, perfect for this baby!

Here is a bit of a closer look at the paint, after applying the matt black (I actually
used black board paint) over the salt I let it dry over night then the following
morning used a cheapo water vaporiser bottle and washed off the salt carefully.
You are left with the mottled effect of the primer showing through, could be better,
I'm pretty happy with my first attempt. Here is the top of the tank.....
