I have another cheap springer and want to fit a 3 inch tire, sometime in the near future, this year I hope. Looking at the fork, I wonder if it can be widened by adding bushings (1/2 to 1 inch on either side) to both sides of the crown where the arms attach, using a longer bolt. Then attach the tops of the arms and struts on the outside of the spring housing. I also had an idea of making up flanges to attach at the bottom to add some height and for looks also. The flange would bolt to the fork legs on one end and attach to the struts at the other, maybe about three or four inches across. The wheel would bolt up between the two. The struts would be out in front. Those connections wouldn't move, it would still be knee action but look like a "real" springer.

Has anyone modded this type of springer? I wonder if it's so cheap it isn't worth the trouble or if it is more unstable if messed with.

I used one with no problem on my Hawthorne but never used any tire other than 2.125.
