Tonight's update:

The frame is done! I got the cable guides and disc mount on, finished up welding everything, and got it painted. I didn't really know exactly what color I wanted, so I just went with I already had in the garage. It ended up satin black, with silver metallic over it. I think it's a cool color, but it may redo it some day.

The frame ended up 0.8 pounds lighter than stock. Not too bad, but still an 8.2 pound steel pig. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the bike put together. I think the only part I am missing is a front caliper mount.

Here are the pics:

I just went outside to clear coat the frame. The silver metallic is CRAZY!

Too bad the camera doesn't really pick it up.

AND ITS BUILT!!!

as it sits its 38.2 pounds. New tires will be here Friday and should drop it 2.4 pounds. 35.8 pounds for a beast with brakes and gears is pretty rad! Plus the geometry feels super nimble!

I need to get a new chain, the one on it is off an old bike and is wasted. And I need to get a front caliper mount because I stole this one off my Yeti.

Thanks! I got the couple parts I needed and hopefully tonight it will get totally dialed. I'll be really interested to get a final weight once my new folding tires get here.

Nice! looks a lot like a Surly Moonlander with that paint job!

Well! This build is basically done. I took it for a ride today, and its EXACTLY what I wanted. Its fun in the dirt, stable downhill at speed, and is a wheelie machine!

When I got home, I put my new lighter tires on it. And The final weight is: (DRUMROLL PLEASE) 34.8 pounds!!!!!!!

Not to toot my own horn, but I think this is the lightest beast out there. And its got monster 8" hydraulic disc brakes and a 9 speed gear set!

Here is is with the new tires, they are Vee Rubber Vee 8s 120tpi folding tires:

About the only thing I may do is get a set of lock on grips. And if I really get bored, I may try to get the weight down another couple pounds. But for right now, I am totally happy with it!!

Here are some geometry numbers:

Chain stay. Axle center to bb center 441 mm
Seat post center to steerer tube center 552
Wheel base 1113 mm
Seat angle 72 degrees
Head angle 65 degrees
Bb drop 65mm
