I recently picked up this Ocean Pacific Roller. O.P. - hence the name Opie. It's an aluminum frame and very similar to Electra's Cruiser model.
Been slapping parts from my stash on it to see what works.

Wow. I didn't know about Tapatalk failures. My laptop died so I have just been using my phone. Borrowed a laptop to see this.

Here is the bike when I got it home...

Here it is with stuff from the stash. Fenders from my ladies Del Sol cruiser. The front was a test for patina practice.

I have since painted the fenders gray with black tips. Reverted back to the original chain guard though. It is also gray. More pictures to come.

I keep playing with the design of a fork truss that sort of looks like a springer ever since I tried it on my RRBBO13 bike.

This time around, I figured out a way to get some springs on it. So now Opie is my faux-springer guinea pig

I'm thinking it still needs some work. Anyway, the rest of the bike is coming along. I'm liking the black and gray look.
I replaced the all black original crankset with this black and chrome set I pulled off a parts bike. Thinking a little chrome helps break up the monochromatic monotony. I didn't count the number of teeth on tho original sprocket, but this one has 39 and it's noticeably smaller. The aluminum frame and low gearing make this one speed a breeze to cruise on. That Huffy from RRBO13 needed ten speeds even on flat ground. LOL

Another revision of the truss. When I get where I like it I'll pop rivets the pieces together and paint it all black. Except the springs.

Handyman, WOW!!! Really digging the progress the faux springer is looking sweet, and I am totally loving that offset seat post. Very cool so far can’t wait to see the final outcome. Great job!

I dig the copper plumbing fittings in the fork. Reminds me of the manifold and exhaust on pre 1930 motorcycles.

What about putting the light bracket downturned bracket over the horizontal fork piece? That would give the springer a bit of backslope.

Yes I think that improves the geometry, more believable!

Been a few days since I worked on Opie. Between rain, real life, and the busted knee I got when the handlebar slipped and I fell on the pavement, haven't had much time to work on this bike.
Got the truss painted last weekend and installed tonight after work. The brief test ride (when I took a knee, ouch!) showed me why I replaced the seat on my Electra so tonight I also swapped out the seat.
The new chain came in yesterday. Black and chrome. Ought to be just right.
Got a vintage chainguard coming that ought to look pretty good on ol' Opie too.

Opie's new old chainguard came in today, so after work I HAD to get it fitted! LOL
A little straightening and rust and old paint removal will come next and then a repaint. I am really liking the look of the guard on this bike. The guard was blue from the factory. Someone painted it red and did some chopping on it, like they fitted it on another bike. Makes me feel less guilty for modifying a vintage part to fit this bike.

So last night I took a wire wheel to the chainguard and cleaned it up. Tonight I got the gray paint on it. Yes I left the dents as you can see under the shiny new paint. The fenders have some dents too. Don't want it to look brand new. Don't want it to be a rust bucket either. LOL
You'll probably notice in the pictures that the cranks are missing. I decided while things were apart to finally do maintenance on the crank bearings. As luck would have it, 3 or 4 were lose in the cage and fell in the grass. Oh crap!
My big magnet turned up all but 1. I had bought a new set of 3 piece crank bearings a couple of years ago but got rid of that bike before installing them. I found them a couple of weeks ago and put them where I could find them to use on this bike if needed. Guess what? I don't remember where I put them. Spent a couple hours looking but no luck. New ones are on order. Be in next Wednesday or so. I did find some in not bad shape in a junk frame, but decided to wait on the new parts since I really like this bike and will probably keep it around.

What if you painted the ribbed section on the chainguard black?
Maybe mock it up with dome electrical tape?

Paint complete. Definitely looks better with some stripe action.
