Nice work OJ. Looks like you're having a gas! Def got the gasser look going on.

Brother Chad T ! Thanks for checking in! I am really having some fun with this one. It's a horse of a different color for me (pun intended) but I'm excited about the concept and hoping for a good result. Great to hear from you, hope all is well with you and yours!

Great way to practice safe biking. :D
Those came out nice.
Looking forward to the paint Hope you have gotten all of your attachments tested and fitted first though. One problem with the metalcast paints is that they can be a bit prone to scratch off easier than other paints.

The inner tube idea is pretty creative. It turned out very nice! With that grip you are steering toward an RRB BO15 award!

Very curious what the painted bike is going to looks like! Are you getting a drawing/poster of this bike too?

Hmmm, a drawing of this bike too, now that's an interesting idea....I've been thinking of something similar to that, but now you have me leaning in a new direction.:nerd:

If the sun comes out today and tomorrow as predicted, we have a nice dry air system over us for the weekend and I hope to do some painting. Hopefully soon we will all satisfy our curiosity about the paint!

I could have sworn I ordered four 11 oz coffees to go.
Curbside pickup ain't what it used to be.

And, keep this image in your head for later:

It's a beautiful Friday eve in the BACK40. Suns out, light breeze, in the low 70's....and speaking of '70s, I've got '70s on 7 Sirius / XM on the radio....and a '70s Hot Wheels spectra-flame gasser parked in the shed....

My orange can crapped out on me. So I had to do a yellow, then red, then yellow over the top again to get some orange on this thing. Worked pretty good.

Don't get your undies in a bundle about the blotchiness of the panel, that will mostly be covered by some graphics. I just wanted to get some paint on it. FYI, it is WAY easier to paint round bike tubing than a flat surface!

That frame fade is pretty awesome
Thanks Capt. The frame part turned out great. I will be plastering the panel with a plethora of graphics / etc so I'm not worried about the abruptness of the color change.

That paint really does look sick! Great blending! It ties in the rear wheel well too.

Cool Hot Wheels effect!

Years ago I worked with a guy that did a lot of paint work on drag cars etc. He would use a technique that he called "hypnotizing" when painting a fade. Basically he lightly fogged the two colors in each direction after the fade was applied. (not sure if that makes sense.) I don't know if that would work the same way with the transparent paint but you wouldn't have a lot to loose sense you're going to cover most of it anyway. Just a thought.

Yeah, that's basically what I ended up doing in the orange area after that color can 'threw up' on my bike! I went yellow over the orange, and then red over that, and then a last light coat of yellow again. The logo will dominate the center part and pretty much just leave a border around it.

Spray can fades can be hard. First, cans are horrible at atomizing the paint. Second you have no control on reducing the paint, and third, you only have control on how far and how fast you spray.
I've had really good results with the curved lines and surfaces of a bike frame using spray cans. The flat panel surface was more unforgiving. But like I said, that is mostly on there just for background to my logo / etc.

Well you were right, the red on the back wheel blends in nicely now.

Being a custom paint guy, I am a huge snob when it comes to fades. I'd say about 50% of the ones I see are fails. For your frame, I give you an 8.5 out of 10. Had your can of orange not failed on you, I would have given you a 10. The panel, well let's just say, thank god for stickers. :giggle: But for a first timer, and using spray cans, you did a great job.

Now that I'm done being a jerk, let me offer you this idea. You could use this panel for the name of the bike and for contingency sponsors.

You could put the Rats Gass logo on an arch along the top and the sponsors stickers on the bottom.
