Hey all Hope everyone is well... Not more than two weeks ago I made a statement "i'm telling myself "no new projects right now"... we'll see how long this last..." Then it happens... Some one said "Klunker and Build Off" in the same sentence Next thing I know i am looking around for a frame and parts... Found a frame it's a 24 inch frame Let's see where this goes Hey by the way... can we try to identify the frame? I got it with out a head badge... ponytailmike mike

Re: Red Rocket Bomber Hey all… Saturday morning I went out shopping (aka thrift storing)… Found a nice set of weinmann aluminum rims… They are 1.5… narrower than what I would usually use… But I liked the blacked out rims… The tires I had laying around from a sale this spring… Innova, 24x2.10, with a red stripe wrapped through the center… While I was out “shopping’ I came up with this idea… I actually remembered the idea after taking those two photos… I road Baby Deluxe the two blocks to the auto part store… Then road home with two 5/16 brake lines five foot long… With the fork off the bike… And tubing cutter in hand… I start taking some measurements… Then got my torch out… I love working that pool of brass around metal and filling joints… I think my truss rods turned out pretty good I hope they have an old look I didn’t have a photo or a set laying around to copy… I took these photos Sunday morning… Ponytailmike Mike

Re: Red Rocket Bomber(new photos and video 10*15*08) Hey all… First I wanted to say I wish I had time to respond to all the builds… They are all looking great… good job fellow Klunkers… Red Rocket is in the first stages of drive train and brake mock up… But she is a rider now… The dual back brakes are modified Dia-Compe side pull… The stud was damaged for the rear brake… So… I drilled out the old stud… Then used the longer front stud to hold it all together… It works pretty well… The drive train is an old 1978 Shimano Integer FF system… What is that you might ask??? Well back in the 70’s all the manufactures were experimenting … Shimano decided to put the freewheel up front with the chainring… This allowed the user to shift gears while coasting or pushing the bike… Quite a neat system… But it didn’t go over very well… Shimano Thunder Bird front and Eagle II rear derailers… Wald pedals with toe clips attached round out the drive train… Here is a video clip… The seat is a Mesinger… Nothing fancy… I just like the design on its side… BMX handlebars outfitted with Shimano thumb shifters and Dia-Compe hand brakes… Red Rocket is still only in mock up stages… I’m thinking I might braze on some better brakes… I’m currently undecided… And I do like a triple chainwheel… Might look for another set of handlebars… Just thinking on the keyboard… We’ll keep up posted… Ponytailmike Mike
