So I have been picking up, and have been a fan of good old 3-spd coaster brake hubs when the price is right. I just tore down & rebuilt my 2nd early 3111 from Sachs recently found listed on e-pay, which turned out to be a good move. You generally see the later, re-designed 515's, which I ride hard on 3 of my Rat road bikes, but I have always wanted to build up a bike around a 3111, which shares most of the basic design of the 515, but has a different shell, planetary/ratchet parts, no oiler, and narrower-spaced spoke flanges. It is a cool hub, made in Germany 50's?-70's, and can be stripped down completely without any tools except for a sharp dental pick. I took a chance on it cause it had the original axle nuts (hard to find), and it turned out to be low mile & near perfect inside!! It took a torch & some patience to get the frozen-solid locknuts to move & get started, but when torn down, cleaned & re-assembled dry, it sings like a bird when spun... Enjoy the pics Ratmasters!!

Old Fichtel & Sachs hubs are worth the effort, for sure. That was beautifully done, SKPC. Thanks for taking pcs!
