Schwinn Tank

Is there a specific name for those slim tanks that fit the Schwinn cantilever frames?
I'm pretty sure they came on the Schwinn American.
What can I expect to pay for one and how hard are they to find?

Schwinn catalogs called them slimline tanks, prices are all over the place. $100 is near the top of the range. Chrome is more desirable (came on Americans/Panthers/Jaguars) than a painted tank (came on fleets). Also heard them called "middleweight" tanks or "half" tanks too. You also need a bike frame with the tank hangers on it to use them.

Thats how the tank stays in place on the top tube, there are two brackets brazed on the frame, the slimline tanks have tabs that slide into the brackets.

Be careful as there is another tank that hangs on some of the middleweight Schwinns called a 'peanut' tank. It's shorter and more rare but the brackets are spaced differently than the slimlines.
