Today was the first time I cruised this topic and I had forgotten just how much fun these can be. I bought one off a guy because I wanted the Higgins bike along with the fenders, rack & 2 chain guards. I was going to remove the motor to build up the bike but I figured I'd ride it once for fun. Fun doesn't begin to describe it. Cruising on a late 40's Higgins & a gas motor was big time fun! I rode it every day all one summer.

When I got it the rear wheel was a Schwinn S-7 rim w/ 1 3/4" tire. I decided if I was going to keep the motor on it I better make a couple changes so I put some brand new wheels w/ 12 gauge spokes and 65 psi tires on it - I felt better about riding it that way. It also had those silly bow pedals so I swapped them out too. The seat wasn't bad - a modern 3 spring - but I found this huge saddle on ebay that just looked like a motorcycle saddle to me. I installed a Lucky 7 post but I still needed more leg room so I jacked the seat up in the air. I don't plan on pedaling it so I'm gonna drop that back down. The handlebars are the biggest I've ever seen. I haven't decided what to do with them. I bought a long stem and turned them upside down but that looks kinda goofy.

I still have fenders, rear carrier, skirts and chain guard I can put back on if I want. I'm not sure what I want to do with it other than RIDE IT! I've spent so much time thinking about fixing it up that I forgot the reason I kept it in the first place - FUN!!!

The lighting in that picture really make the R-E-D tires pop. Before installation I scrubbed both tires with hot soapy water, hand and air dried and then applied Armoural also letting them air dry for a few hours. I bought those off ebay seller "bicyclebones" about a year and a half ago when I first got back into the bicycle hobby. They were listed as "Whizzer" tires with a 65 psi rating and they came with thorn proof tubes. They have a unique profile in that they flare out after the side wall instead of rounding over like most tires. I had to add links in both chains to set the wheel back farther because that "flare out" was causing some rubbing issues where the chain stays come together. At the time I had no idea what was available in the way of tires but after purchasing all different styles of tires they remain quite unique.
