Straightening chain ring

I have got a chain ring that I would like to use but its slightly bent. Doesn't look to bad but it's enough to make the chain pop off. So, what's the best way to straighten it?

Park makes a special tool for the job but a crescent wrench will work just fine.

Think of it this way, the chainring is already broken, what's the worst that could happen

Use the gap between the chain stay and chainwheel to judge by as it spins. Like truing a wheel only with a hammer. I have a big leather mallet I use to tweak them when they are bent.

Good tip thanks! Ironically enough I have trued a wheel with a hammer

use an adjustable wrench on the teeth that are bent and bend them back slowly! it works for me!

I want an , "unlike" button!!!
Ran into hammer trued wheels over the years, bleh.
I use 2 small crescent wrenches, one to hold and one to bend.
File any burs, nicks or sharps off the chain ring.
Using a straight edge, lay it acrossed the sprocket, see that the cog is within 1/8th" of lining up. Less would be better, I get my chainline perfect.
