Strange marks on tire.

Okay so I noticed what looks like rub marks on my rear tire but I don't see where anything could be rubbing on the tire. Here are a couple of pictures.

It's not rub marks. It's the rubber breaking down. Those lines are the fibers that are woven into the tire itself.

So does that mean I need new tires?

I'd just keep an eye on them and ride on unless you see them getting a lot worse. It might be a more of a consideration if you are going to ride very far from home! Hard to say.
