Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.

Nice! Glad to have you on board with this! You planning on building up both of these? If so, I admire your ambition!

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.

i am going to get one good one together using parts from both.

i have like 4 other projects going on too, so i have to squeeze this one in.

hmmm, I knew that tank looked familiar! :) You definitely have to run the springer of the first one.

def gonna run the rat trap. might flip it!

anybody need the truss fork of the second one?
also gonna get rid of the fenders, chainguard, rear rack off the first one.

i plan on doing led conversion on the tank light and the rear rack light.
2 speed bendix kickback for the rear.
tires.....?
handlebars......?
accessories....?

hrmmmm.

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.

ok guys, i got some stuff done today.
got both bikes taken completely apart.
i have all my parts picked out to use from these two bikes.

there are a couple of unknowns. big unknowns though.

1. what handlebars to use. normal cruiser bars just wont do it for this one.
2. what tires to use. since i flipped the rat trap, the front fender wont work too well. i am not sure if i will keep the rear fender.
i am pretty sure i can make 2.125s fit with the fender. not totally sure. i know 2.35s wont work.

stuff i am definitely using.
1. bendix 2 speed automatic. this one is laced to a chrome drop center. i have one to match for the front.

2. the flipped rat trap springer!
100_2917.jpg

3. excel pedals. these are in great shape, but i love this type, and they are wiecked expensive on the bay.
100_2918.jpg

4. original crank and murray chainguard
100_2919.jpg

5. the frame from the second bike pictured above.
100_2920.jpg

6. original troxel liner seat.
100_2921.jpg

7. light for under the rear rack. delta. this one is non working. needs new guts. i am thinking LED conversion and a new toggle switch
100_2922.jpg

8. rear rack from second bike above.
100_2923.jpg

9. flightliner chainguard.
100_2924.jpg

10. sears tank. the horn unit is in good shape. lens is intact. gotta rework the lights.
100_2925.jpg

i have some kenda flames coming. couldnt pass up the $4 deal. gonna try em out when they arrive to see how they look.
other than that the only tires i have are some 1.75" whitewalls. i think i need thicker ones for this build.

seeing joeys "flight of the navigator" inspiration got me thinking about space movies i really dug as a kid.
one stands out.

Explorers. one of the other movies i had taped from tv as a kid.
they build a ratrod spaceship out of part of a tiltawhirl and some other junkyard parts.

i am gonna watch the movie again and get some inspiration.

dang thats a lot of chrome!

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.(update 1/10)

Nice! I really like that! If I may make a suggestion, I think with spaceliners the thinner tires look best. New 26x1.75 whitewalls would really look nice.

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.(update 1/10)

Looking good. The rework on the lights will be cool. maybe even some small running lights to reflect off the chrome.

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.(update 1/10)

Thats the drawback to flippin the springer, you gotta lose the fender. But HARDCORE rats don't have fenders anyway, right?

Re: The Spacey Flighty Linery thingy.(update 1/10)

So THAT'S what they look like, with no rust!.........They're "pretty".

aight, sick day from work today. not really sick, but dont feel great.
good enough to work on bikes though!

so i changed the name of the bike. The Tilt-a-Liner.
i am basing the name loosely off the movie earlier posted, Explorers.
they build their spaceship out of a tilt-a-whirl.
it was red. i have some good red on it.

today is going to be mockup day.
i am flirting around with different ideas.
got some apes on it now, with my old brooks saddle and 1.75 whitewalls.

photos coming later.

first mockup this morning.
apes, 1.75 ww tires, brooks saddle.

next mockup i am gonna try some diff bars. i dunno. i dont have any other tires here, and cant buy more right now. my flames are coming. may try those when they get here.

had to remind myself

all i remembered before is lightning bolts, trash can, tv screens, tilt-a whirl

in that order

i like this build idea !!!
