Tire pressure?

This might be a silly question but it's been bothering me... I like to ride with at least 55psi in my tires but most tire manufacturers have a rating of 35-40 psi. Say if I was to buy tires rated at 40 psi... could I over inflate them to 50 and be fine? (tires not blowing up on me while riding...cause I'm old and it will hurt)
 
You might get away with it, but... they could deform and lose their grip on the rim and come off. I have found high pressure balloons in bike shops before, usually not cheap but worth it. Continental makes several styles. Here's a couple of examples of what's out there in the lower price range:

Thanks for the links! I really wish I could find red wall slicks that can handle 50+psi!
