Help on Old Motorbike ( viewtopic.php?f=62&t=51908 )

Postby ScurryMurray on Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:20 pm
So many of these old frames look alike! Can anyone help me I.D. this frame manufacturer and year or range? I am thinking mid-30's Schwinn, although the guy I got it from is leaning toward Henderson or Elgin... or is it something else?

Thanks
elliott

**Notice:
- where the downtube meets the horizontal bar.
- rear dropouts seem to have stops for a drop kickstand.
- serial number on BB, 6673 and a smaller upside down 7 above it.
- brazed truss's on fork

All the old Motobike frames look so much the same. You should post measurements and orientation of the headbadge holes.

Thanks for the feedback... sorry just replying now, but tell me if these pictures and info help. Thanks.

headtube badge holes by curlywolf, on Flickr

labeled wo measurements by curlywolf, on Flickr

A: Headtube height: 5"
B: Horizontal bar length: 22"
C: Seat tube length: 18.5"
D: Seatstay length: 18"
E: Chainstay length: 16"
F: Downtube length: 22"

Does that help?

Thanks,
Elliott

Badge spacing looks like an Iver Johnson. Fork does not.

You're right. I was trying to remember what mine looked like but it's been a while.

The headbadge is going to be the best clue. Up until about 1935, everyone was producing this style frame and everything up until 1933 came standard with 28" wheels. The headbadge should at least be able to help narrow down the brand and hopefully the manufacturer after that.
