A long story on the history,I was given this bike by a friend of my wife whose son rode it while at UC Santa Cruz, and no I don't think it's a Santa Cruz brand. It was a cluster of mangled worm out parts, so I stripped it down and built it backup as 1 x 6 just to putz around on. The strange cantilever studs with the spring anchor hole being on the outside threw me, it didn't have rear brakes when I got it, I luckily found some old Cannondale coda canti's that work, all the parts I either had in my stash or I bought on line, it's not much and I'm still waiting for the brake handles I ordered, but for the little I rode it, it's a nice rider.

I'm thinking Mongoose as well. The serial number appears to be on a 1986 model and the componentry and frame design scream mid-80's. I'm currently restoring a 1986 Diamondback Ascent and it's in good shape besides storage scrapes and chain lube gunk in all of the usual nooks and crannies. Scope around for chrome frame 1986 model year bikes/frames.

but my dropouts only have 1 eye or ear for rack attachment, not round but barrel derailleur cable guide on chain stay, and what of the serial being on the rear bottom of the seat tube? Mongeese didn’t do that I don’t think.

Don’t believe goose cause the weird lug at the junction of top tube seat tube and fork stays isn’t goose, plus what I told Matti, mongeese have two eared dropouts. Serial number at the bottom rear of seat tube is bizarre. Mongoose didn’t have the oddly bent/shaped drive side chain stay, AND and the rear canti brake posts/studs, with the return spring indexing hole on the OUTSIDE is also s T r a N G e to moi.

It might be a Royce Union or a 99% the same as Royce Union "Goose" from after the name was bought by Brunswick ORG, and then later on Pacific cycles, who was then sold to Dorel. Most if not all of these makers farm out some of their manufacturing to other companies. There were a couple of other companies who owned the brand before Brunswick as well. Good luck figuring out who actually made it. :comando:

This thread reminds me of a quote from Live And Let Die, "Names is for tombstones, baby."

All of my MTBs are stickered over on the branding for that very reason. The only reason my Surly Pugsley is not stickered over is because of my vague connections to them. Just ride and have fun on that chrome beauty, man.

BTW, if you are a Schwinn fan and want a few stickers to brand it as that, I'll send you some. See the Pay It Forward thread about that and hit me up with a PM if you'd like some. They are already in stamped envelopes, waiting to go out.
