    1979 Schwinn Spitfire

The rims look like the original S2’s. Someone had some blue spray at some point. Even the brake arm mount got hit with the blue. They will probably clean up to a decent chrome, albeit a lot of elbow grease would be involved. Really nice find, I have a 79 Spitfire as well and love riding it.

    Schwinn Cruiser SS

Just picked up this Cruiser SS this morning for a real good price - I am a sucker for a good lookin’ Schwinn. This one has very few scratches and even has polished alum rims, sweetheart chainring and dog leg crank, sort of a throwback attempt that I actually think looks pretty good. Not sure of...

Had a local errand to run so went with the Heavy Duti today. Happy Thanksgiving, all!

    Bassett Star Cruiser

Really nice find. Bassett made quality everything in Orange County, CA. I used to sell their wet stack headers for ski and race boats back in the day, they were the best at the time.

What have you been riding lately?

Rode the ‘84 Schwinn I have been working on - new bars, stem, saddle, pedals, S2 rims and a set of Fat Franks. Fast and fun! Also a couple pics of how I found it.😩

From 1 bike guy to another

That’s correct. Cruisers did not have fenders unless they were aftermarket and installed by the dealer or bike owner. HD had fenders as standard issue from the factory in Taiwan as shown in the catalog pics. Forks were the same for both.

Fenders are standard on Heavy Duti’s like yours but not on Cruisers.

I have a mens built in 84 and a ladies 85. No fenders came on either, but both forks as such. What is your head badge date?

    Bikes in Autumn

Hockey stick storage? Maybe snow covers for park benches?

It is mid to late ‘80s. The serial numbers do not tell you much, but there should be a four digit Julian date code on the head badge. Last number in the string is the year within the decade.

Stopped by the California National Guard outpost on a ride yesterday for a pic with the vehicles.

    Mid-80s Hevi-Duty value question.

Most of the used modern HD’s, Husky and Worksman that I’ve seen are pretty beat up, paint-wise. If they came from the industrial sector, they are typically abused and neglected by the employees that used them.

Thanks. It was In great shape but just dirty when I got it and I have put only a few hours into clean up so far, but it really is coming out nice.

    Mid-80s Hevi-Duty value question.

I just acquired an HD similar to yours and have had the same thoughts about doing a klunker style cruiser. You and @JA331 have been putting some ideas in my head for this one!
