    Saxonette conversion, mad max style

Went the same route today and completed the tour with no serious issues. Went only uphill incase I had to pedal home. Seating position is very uncomfortable on the knees and shoulders and will be tweaked. Fuel filter is now halfway filled with rust. The springy seat was a good idea, downhill I...

Took it for a spin. It died on me after about a mile. Tried starting it back up, but it only went for a few seconds and died again. Pedaled it home, cleaned the carb. It started back up again, but I don't know how long it will last. I think the rust I didn't get out of the tank is now clogging...

I figured it'd make it easier to read in one go, but alright. Future updates will be posted seperately

    Gender bending sears bobber.

I bet your son is the coolest kid in school now. Very nice build.

Another update. Bought some parts and continued rambling about my plans. See bottom of first post.

Well, figures. I found a decent boardtracker style bike on ebay for 200. This will shoot me way over budget, but I guess if I buy a fork, seat and stem and weld in top tubes in the existing frame, i wouldn't be much cheaper anyways and I'll end up with a mediocre frame. Whadya think...

My tank arrived today and it looks glorious. I'll just have to get the paint off and remove the rust from the inside. Quick question: there are two chambers separated by a high tunnel, but only one 'exit hole'. How does the fuel actually get from one side to the other?

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I updated my post with a mock up to show where this might be going.

    Hi from Germany

It ran before I removed the leaking tank ;) I believe the previous owner allowed someone to sit on the rack, causing it to bend, which in turn forced the tank into the tire, and later the tire grinded it open. I kinda expect it to die on me when I'm at an event forcing me to pedal it like some...

    Hi from Germany

Thanks, I assumed the forum would resize them for me, guess I'll have to do it manually.

Yes it is, to move the hub sideways to make room for the motor and still have stability. Mine is dented and has one broken spoke already. :D

I scored a Saxonette for 100 €. This is a stock saxonette: pretty ugly, right? This is how I bought mine: Besides the obvious amateurish rat mods, it is also in a pretty bad shape, but it runs. It was used at a post-apocalypse-themed event, and I intend to continue using it there, but first I...

My first build - Flat Black Rat

This is made from a Chrisson Sando, a 250 € bike I ordered online (comparable to your big box bikes. They don't sell real vintage cruisers in Germany, and if they do, they're really expensive. Reading about your 60 $ scores makes me envious). Invested another 100 € in parts. I live in a hilly...

    Hi from Germany

Hi, new builder here. I own a cheap modern cruiser for daily driving and a very banged up Saxonette I plan on converting. Currently residing in Thuringia/Germany and working in a bicycle startup with a workshop I can use (score!), but sadly no access to welding equipment. My DD...
