A Newly Aquired Pile of Parts BSOs?

Nothing special, which is PERFECT for me! A couple of serviceable 26" cruisers and a spare 26" coaster brake wheel for $80. Will probably part out the cruisers for the GT build and the vintage ladies Schwinn I'm putting together for the old lady.

Trying To Make Something Cool Out of Three Big Box Garbage Rods: The Hot Mess Express

The 26" Magna Great Divide MTB BSO has an interesting frame design. Very heavy and tank-like, with beefy tires. The cheap suspension fork has to go, as do the sleazy decals, reflectors, hand brakes, and gears. The 26" girls Huffy Panama Jack cruiser is pink. I'm not a fan of pink because I...

    #2 Son's Thrashed BMX

#2 son was way into bmx in his younger days. He's a married and responsible adult now, so he gave this thing to me. Last time he rode it, a reunion of sorts with his buddies from his bmx days, he crashed and broke his elbow! lol What I know of this rig I had to Google. Cult frame, fork, and...

    24 Inches Of Junk

I threw this together today just for giggles. It is a conglomeration of three 24" scrap pile garbage rods...a 24" Huffy girls cruiser (wheels/stem,fork,grips,chain), a 24" Huffy MTB (tires, tubes), and a 24" Roadmaster MTB (frame, seat and post, BB assembly). It rides nice, but it's too small for...

    Brother-In-Law's 1992(?) Specialized Rockhopper Sport

He has commissioned me to get it back on the road. Apparently, he has a lot of sentimental value for it. It's kinda rough, but I figure I can get it riding like new and looking pretty nice for $200 in new parts.

1989 Specialized Stump Jumper Revival Begins!

This is how she looked when I got her. Put her on the new stand and get to rippin' into it. First thing is to remove seized fork in preparation for the rebuild kit ordered from Suspension Fork Parts. https://www.suspensionforkparts.net/eshop/answer-manitou/manitou-1.html That done, I...

Freshening Up My Daughter's Vintage GT Outpost.

A buddy gave me this thing years ago. It had those gawd-awful bull bars, no grips or tape, thin, dry rotted gum wall road tires, destroyed pedals, and a worn out and gummed up drive train. I decided it was time to show my one and only daughter some love! New Kenda City Slick tires...

Bike Work Stands! Homemade or store bought. What do you have? What have you built? Let's see your ideas.

I want a bike work stand. I want some degree of portability. Park Tools stuff is awesome, but man...are they proud of their gear! I think I can cobble together something cheaper and more sturdy. I'll start with this car engine stand inherited from dear old dad. I won't be rebuilding any...

Mucking about with the Pure Fix

Yes. I did it. The destructive kid (and his parents) a few doors down donated some parts. A couple of ragged out kid-sized department store BMX rigs. I scrounged the handlebars, amongst other things, then did the unthinkable. Spray bombed a disgusting neon green set into a gaudy gloss banner...

What do you have in the works?

I want to get the Quintana Roo back to its former glory and gift it to my son. No repaint 'cuz that would be improper and imprudent. NOS crankset parts coming from Italy. I want to get my Specialized Team StumpJumper restored to near original condition with a few personalized touches. Forks...

What In Tarnation Did I Just Bring Home? Some Kinda Rig I Wouldn't Understand Rescued From The Trash Man!

All sorts of scary stuff I know little about! Aired up the tires, screwed in a pedal somebody had almost cross-threaded, tightened the wheels, raised the handle bars and removed the bull horns and arm rests, lowered the seat....and she's a runner! Gears all work using the shifters on the brake...

Cold forging to close distance between rear dropouts?

I've seen folks use threaded rod, nuts, and washers to widen the distance between dropouts. Any issues with reversing the process and closing the distance between dropouts?

Another Junky Old Dept. Store Bike Rescued!

Y'all are prolly getting pretty tired of me posting my garbage, but I ain't finding much in the way of free classic Schwinns or other really cool old stuff like the rest of you are. So...you're gonna have to suffer through another post of my undesirable junk! This is a vintage 26" Huffy...

Annie the 1981 Sears Free Spirit 3-Speed

A build I showed you in my introductory post. She's come a long way. Named for the co-worker's daughter who will be receiving it. Rescued from the scrapper's trailer. Some fine tuning and final tweaks, and she's off to her new owner! It rides really nice as it is. Buttery smooth and...

Another Scrap Yard Survivor: 1975 Schwinn Suburban

Just picked this up last night. It's mostly complete. Straight wheels, decent paint. Missing handle bars and seat courtesy of my stash. I believe it to be a 1975 model. Dorothy Snider where are you?
