A guy walks into our bicycle shop and says he's got a bike in the back of his truck that he wants to donate to us. Usually, this means they have a clapped-out Walmart bike that they don't want to drive out to the city dump. But, to our surprise and pleasure, it turned out to be a little gem. From the serial number, remaining paint markings, and the front spring fork we believe it's a 55 Schwinn Phantom. If anyone has a different opinion on the year or model we'd love the input. We have been talking about doing a Rat Rod or Klunker build for a long time and this seems like a perfect project bike. We've got lots of spare parts to put on it and the biggest challenge will be just finding the time to fit it in. We want to get the bike done in time for our local car show which is on September 18th. So, this contest will give us a little extra incentive to get it done early. This is our first entry in the Rat Road build off and we're really looking forward to sharing our progress and learning from all of you.

Welcome to the build off fun! This is a great place to work on that cool ride with some other like-minded people.

As far as a 'rat rod' look, that already has a a great start!

Red Phantom. Post the serial number and I'll check to see if it is 55. It should be a letter (P, R, S, T, or U) followed by 5 numbers but 57 also had similar numbers.
