Last week, I swapped most of the parts that were on my typhoon on to a bare wtp avenger frame i had. I bought new tyres, grips and pedals but many of the other parts i used were salvaged from parts bikes. A while ago i bought a sturmey archer thumb shifter on amazon that was advertised to work with a nexus 3 hub which surprisingly it did.

The front fork is from Paul at Atomic cycles and the schwinn style 1 piece crank is from the electra gigi i bought this week. I have a nice shiny dogleg for the gigi. I also dug out an 80’s diacompe lever and electra straight 8 bars. It rides great and the high pressure maxxix dth’s are really sticky and roll fast.

Hey man I know this thread is back a ways but sometimes those are the best ones!
What type of handlebars are those in the photos? Nice rise, wide. They fit the definition of Longhorn Bars to a T and I need to find a set like them for my 1962 Schwinn Typhoon 20" Pig Bike.
Been tossing about what to use, 1920s Tiller bars are close but HTF. Shelby Airflo Bars would be cool but not sure on them yet. Haven't held a set in real life.
These look close enough to 1950s Longhorn Bars to make me consider them if I can find a set reasonable that I can hold in my hands since the bike is in teardown stage now.
Thanks in advance, Rob

Looks similar to what Electra used to put on their bikes like Pink Pink or Ghostrider.

He mentioned Electra Straight 8 bats, but I wasn't sure if he meant these bars or others he bought. I am guessing these then. Thanks, Rob

No worries. The chrome bars on the typhoon are Electra attitude which I cleverly removed from an Electra straight 8 before i sold it. They are available from Trek/Electra dealers but only in black. I now have them on my Red Menace below.

Other options are these medium height Sunlite bars I now have on the typhoon which can also be found in chrome on ebay.

The owner of the cabe forum sells these reverse tiller bars. $40 in raw or $120 in beautiful nickel plating.

The tiller bars are more suitable I am trying to keep everything mid 1960s and earlier, even if it is reproduction.
I was hoping the bars were older or patterned off older bars, but they are still cool!
Those are cool bikes man.
Thanks, Rob
