Hope everyone has been doing well…
Last Wednesday I was out cruising my local used bike shops (thrift stores)…
Not finding much that I would even think about dragging home…
Then at my last stop…
I look through the bikes…
Don’t see anything…
Cruise the rest of the store…
Then decide one last look through the bikes…
I notice the spokes on this bike???
Man!!! Those are heavy duty!!!
I dig it out of the pile…
Ohhh Mannn!!!!
It’s an old monoshock!!!
This thing is SCREAMING mid to late 70’s…

I myself was not into the BMX thing in the 70’s…
More interested in going fast…
On my old 24x1 3/8 ten speed…
Maybe all the BMXers out there can fill me in on this old survivor…
It looks to be original and complete…
Not much out there on the net…
Thanks…

Rad find!

Takaras are not as desireable as a Mathews or other early monos, but the condition of that one will elevate it's value to the right buyer.

If you're going to keep it, it's a good start to a collection. :)

I would say your spot on (age wise). This was my era, and this one would have been "state of the art"for that period.Big 2.125 knobbies and 105 ga. spokes were the fare of the time. The bend in the fork is a dead give away for me.Tubular ones that had the caster angle decided by the angle it was welded to the steer tube came later. That shimano coaster was pretty commom as well, it had a bad habit of chewing up bearings under hard use.I use to buy them four at a time as it came to a buck even @ LBS.That stem looks like an Ashtabula knock-off. Ashtabula used to make H-D parts like stems, cranks, forks they were available in any color you wanted as long as it was flat black. I,ll bet it's heavy too! Weight wasn't as big a concern as durability at this point in BMX.Later & PEACE!!!!

After a second look, I wouldnt put it past mid 70's. Those "mini-T" handle bars were very popular about that time. If you look at the early cantilevered frame Schwinn Scramblers you will see the same bars. But as we all know, Schwinn was way behind in BMX at this point in the game.

Randy...
She’s a keeper...
No matter how badly I’d like to use these heavy-duty rims on a ponytail kustom...
I just can’t do this to such a fine piece of history…

Slick Rick…
Heavy is an understatement…
I would be safe in saying it is as heavy as some of my fully dressed cruisers…
Maybe even heavier
I just can’t get over the fact that these tanks were raced…

She’ll be cleaned and polished by spring…

That's great news you're going to keep it, clean it, and ride it. That's one more saved.
