A Few more Forks and Such

Hi fellow bike fans,
With a recent trip to OSU for grad day, we had time for one stop heading home.
Picked up a few spare parts.

Turns out there are some bikes in there I am reluctant to cut up. All 20"ers.
One is a "paul jr. designs", not shown, but complete but for seat and tires.
It looks a bit cool just the way it is.
I won't be using the wheels for anything anyway, they are steel, and have those grouped spokes,
too many to count, black with red nipples, and fit the design of the bike. 6-piece bars.
Don't know, but I would think it was a "Big Box' store special, not worth much, but worth
some used tires and a seat.

But there are two that I wonder about.
Please help identify or qualify these if you have info.

First is a frame only. "Intense" is the name. Aluminum frame. Wild Zebra pattern. Not paint.
Some kind of "film". Missing bottom bracket, but has one sealed bearing. Quality work.
Light. Fork is steel, looks original. (also has that custom swept back look from one too many
nose plants), not bent too bad to straighten out.
Might be fun to put this one back together.

That's an 08 Intense BMX race frame. Original fork too. Please do not chop

Curious what frame size it is

Next one is a Redline freestyle. nearly complete. Missing wheel set, and seat/seatpost.
This one still has the de-tangler, (still works) , both brakes, pedals, grips and bars.
For sure, not the top line, and must be newer, (from offshore? ) .
Even so it is built strong, and not bent.
The dropouts are almost 1/4 " thick. Had 9/16" axles.
Also has a "finish' I have never seen before.
Kinda blue, with almost rust splotches here and there, but not painted.
In fact, it looks like they skipped the paint or finish process completely,
Finishing the metal first, and then tig welding together.
The heat affected areas are clearly visible where welded.

Here is one more that might be more fun to rebuild, as is.

I picture 36 spoke rims and 1.75 size tires. Not heavy.
What kind of bars to be close to stock ?

I have one 9/16" rear hub for the Redline, but it's 48 spoke and don't have the rim.
The other matching hub, 48 spokes, is the wheel in use for the "up-down" build.

The other 48 spoke wheel set was on the "Green" bike, as seen in the Gallery,
but that set has been "borrowed" to use on the "RedGoose" tandem, and may stay there.
I did lace that set using some very strong rims when I built the Green fun bike.
But they work well, and look right on the tandem.

I also notice in the pic strong wheels, 2.25 front, and 1.75 rear.
Is the seat original?

Very nice find, for only wanting a few spare parts to help with the other build.

Well, sometimes it rains bicycles.
Did not wake up this morning thinking things would turn out this way, but they did.

All in one day, I asked a friend for a bike part, came back with 4 more bikes, plus extra bars
and then some, including an old type frame, may be a Schwinn.
Just as I got back, Fed Ex showed up with a "ModernBike" order, including the missing hub
for the "UpDown" build.
Then, i got offered a chance to buy back my Redline 24" cruzer. I did.

The 24" cruzer is light, aluminum, and rides fast.
Almost makes me feel like a kid again.
Being overweight ,73 , and a careful rider most of the time, that's wild.
This one bike makes me want to put on my helmet to ride it.
Glad to have it back.

The 24" cruzer is light, aluminum, and rides fast.
Almost makes me feel like a kid again.

Ditto. My DB 24 is a blast. Not awesome for the long hauls, but around the hood, it can't be beat. Also gobs of fun on the local dirt BMX track

Found lots of Sinz components online. nice to know they're available.
Not in my price range at this time.

I fit a sealed bottom bracket, rescued some SunTour cranks that I had dumped into the
scrap bin. Cut off the inner and outer chainrings, cold bent the forks straight then extended
the steer tube 4", searched for and found the tallest set of bars I had, cleaned up a set of
ratty wheels w/tires from the pile of free bikes and checked the seat post.
The original Sinz post would have worked great, but somebody cut 4" off the bottom.
Will use a different seat and find something for a post.
Just need a chain and a brake to test ride.

Yes, the wrong components , the bars are too high, and the seat post needs to be changed.

But, all free parts. Well almost, 1 new brake cable. Had the seat.

A bit small for me, but not by much. Light and nimble.

When I can find the parts, would like to set up some wheels with red, red on the brake,
and find some red grips.
Plan to keep it around, if only for once or twice a year.

Hi,
Yet another distraction from the UpDown build.
This one wasn't quite free.
My neighbor wanted to buy the "Green" fun bike.
So he gave me $50 and this Hawthorne.
Says Montgomery Ward on it, but Hawthorne on the chaingard.

Anyway, whatever it is, it was not any fun to ride, as is, stock.
Too high a gear for me, coaster brake, horrible seat, bars too low, and looked and felt too long.

But there it is, I got it, better try some quick changes.

Lets try some different bars and seat.
