A Lengthy Insanity started life as a lightly used fat tire 2014 Mongoose.

It has been stretched and lowered by cutting the rear drop outs in half and cold bending the seat stays, then welding in fillers. (Frame inverted)

Permanent sockets were added to support the sissy bar.

My favorite parts of the build were doing the stick shifter, and lacing the Sturmey Archer fat hub rear wheel.

The custom kickstand.

I also got a lot of welding practicing reinforcing a repop Stingray seat to be adult worthy.

I put some real foam in it.

Front end was a used unit from West Coast choppers.

...and don't forget the 2 speed manual transmission~! This turned out well. Youour've created a unique ride, using a variety of parts, and made it all 'work'. That's a rat rod bike.

Congrats on your first Build Off entry and crossing the Finished Line!

Killer first build off bike. I want to take it for a blast down a drag strip.

FIRST TIME IN THE BUILD OFF!?! NO WAY. FANTASTIC BIKE

Guys I was confused about the central daylight time vs pacific daylight time and how many hours there actually were, if you lived in California.

I thought that the deadline was central standard time and I am in Pacific daylight time which is three hours earlier.

Anyhow as you will see by this clip of my photograph, I finished my upload one minute before I thought the deadline was: at 9 AM PDT.

Boy did I let out a sigh! I literally worked until the last minute possible and I didn’t realize it until I saw the edit time said 8:59.

But actually I still had an hour, and I could’ve put on the Tokyo bell and a tail light.

I should’ve asked more specific questions about this before hand, but my mind was occupied with so many things.

Ultimately, I just wanted to put in my best showing. I didn’t have any illusions about being able to win this contest against professional bike builders who are doing unusual scratch frames in foreign lands with exotic parts.

Anyhow, I have a bicycle that I really like, and that I really like to ride, and I’m not going to see myself coming down the street from the other direction.

They say that every artist must suffer for their art. I say that God never made a lazy artist. That’s not my original thought but I don’t remember who said it first.

Well I suffered through hot weather and various other situations, but the biggest anguish of the build was not that nor the new scars I got from welding and grinding.

It was having my new favorite bike torn apart, and not riding it, for an entire week!

Next year I won’t have this problem. I have two complete bicycles now, and three more in various stages of completion, and I fixed my motorcycle, so I will not be without wheels.

You got a cool bike. That's the prize at the end of the rainbow

I am still working on this bike, and I’m riding it every day doesn’t rain.

OK I rode it in the rain today too. Without fenders. First time that’s happened in 45 years here in the desert.

This is not our usual weather pattern. The rain doesn’t start until Halloween.

I don’t know what the protocol is here, and I don’t want to continue posting bike updates in this thread, but I’m not sure I should post them in the other build thread either. I don’t want to have 12 threads going.

I will start another thread, called Ulu’s Bike Update.

I just need to figure out where.
