I

I am pretty certain that Hawthorne is one that was made by Snyder. Their house brand was Rollfast.
But I don't believe that is a 1940 model. With that tank and springer, I would put that closer to late 40s or early 50s.
The serial number already pegged it as a 1940 CWC. It just didn't tell what specific model it was

I was referring to this photo. It's Snyder built, not cwc

RaTina update: The rustification is coming along nicely. I parked my bike in a car show last weekend and drew a ton of attention. Unfortunately, people can't keep their grubby mitts to themselves and a large section of very fragile surface rust was rubbed off a decent section of the fender, taking it almost back to bare, clean metal. I reapplied the rat juice cocktail to speed up the new rust production, and it shows just how deep of red the overall rust color is. So my real (faux) patina will have varying layers of rust oxides

I wanted to make a handlebar bag and have been looking for a non boring, unique pattern for a while. Finally found one last night and knocked together this bag today. It's totally handmade, and it took about 6-7 hours to complete.

It snaps onto the truss rods, and is secured around the gooseneck with a brass buckle
