First and foremost, I fully blame CRASH for all these muscle bike builds! :)

I’ve been collecting parts for this bike for a little bit, and since I’m hoping to be finished with my daughter’s bike this weekend (and possibly the Ted Williams bike too, if my chainguard comes back from my sandblaster).

I’m starting with an AMF-built Proven Jet. I’ve determined after looking at tons of cantilever frames that this 60’s era AMF is one of my favorite. As Starnger said, it combines the AMF cantilever with the big belly CWC frames they bought out. I also love the laid back seat tube and steering tube angles on these bikes.

My plan for this bike is build a 3 speed shifter bike, using some pretty unique parts for this kind of build. I’ve sourced some cool rims, tires, and shifter for it already. I’m planning on a wild metal flake muscle bike era paint job of some kind and I’m bouncing an idea around for a pretty cool seat as well, if I can pull it off.

Anyway, here’s my starting point.

The first thing I did was strip it down and I put the wheelset, seat, and bars off my Huffy Dragster XL on it. As much as I love my Huffy, this frame is just “it” IMO!

Here’s the comparison of the 2.

The rims I’m going to run on this bike are Wienmann stainless steel 26 x 1.75’s with a Sachs Torpedo 3 speed hub. They are beautiful wheels and the 3 speed works perfectly.

I found a nearly mint 26 x 2.125” Allstate Safety Tread tire that has a square, boxy profile much like a slick. It a cool squiggily tread and I believe will have a great muscle bike look it to. It has a raised bar on the sidewall that plan on painting red to make the tire a redline tire.

Since this bike has the Sachs 3 speed, I found a NOS Sachs Speed Shift shifter for it. Since it is white, I’m going to use white cables and probably going with a white seat and grips to match.

That Sachs shifter is super rad! Any idea what era? My 70s tandem with the 3 speed torpedo came with this, could use an upgrade (if Ms Thundrrr allows)

I assume 70’s probably. The bike it came from was an early 70’s model as far as I can tell.

Just playing around - Schwinn style springer, 26 x 2.5” rear, 24 x 1 3/8 front.
I don’t hate this look!
