I just traded for this 26" Schwinn Skipper earlier this Sunday, but I'm thinking of either selling it or trading it for something else. I know it was built on April 4th, 1961 according to the serial number, but I don't know how much of the bike is original, outside of the paint. If anyone can give me an idea of how much it's worth/what I could sell/trade it for, please let me know.

Neat bike and beautiful thunderstorm in the background!
IDK, seems like the market has weakened on this stuff lately. Maybe $250 on Craigslist? Neat bike but probably not overly desired.

Thanks! Those clouds looked beautiful just as the sun was setting. Didn't get any good photos of them though.

$250?! If that's weakened, then what the heck was the going price before?! That's like $50-$100 more than what I thought I could get for this bike! You sure that isn't a typo?

I'd start at $250 and see. Always could go down, harder to go up. If it were mine I'd start at $250, at least around here. At the end of the day it's a pretty cool men's Schwinn with original paint and a pretty rare one at that.

If you were to ace the fenders, kickstand and shoestring, you'd have one bad-... looking bike!

Agreed, it's easier to price high and sell low than the other way around. I'd be ecstatic to get $250 for this bike! I'd like to try and sell it on either here or thecabe.com, but I don't know how to ship complete bikes, and I doubt most folks would want to drive all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma to pick it up either. You wouldn't know where I could find a thorough guide to shipping bikes, would you?

It is a pretty sweet bike, it's just not quite my style.

When you say "ace," do you mean "remove," or something else?

Remove them, yeah. There are plenty of tutorials online on how to ship bikes. Most shops give away bike boxes for free, I just nabbed one this morning. Tulsa is a big metro area, you'd think surely someone locally could buy it, no? There's an ... for every seat they say!

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll have to look up some tutorials then. I know a few bike shops around town. Maybe I could get a box from one of them. I'll post an ad on Craigslist and Marketplace. I've sold stuff that way before.

I would consider that a fairly desirable piece that you could probably get 200 - 300 for in some circles in a stronger economy. Right now, maybe not.

The single straight bar was produced for years but the double like you have was only 1 or 2 years

You'd likely get more $ if you got the correct res S seat for it, and at least a more vintage looking kickstand, imho. -Adam
I'm sure I would, but I don't really want to spend more money on a bike that I have no desire to keep. Plus, I already have someone who's interested in buying the bike at a price we're both happy with. I'm just holding onto it for him until he can pick it up after Thanksgiving.
