BoilerMaker #47

This is my latest ride.

It’s a 49 Huffman built skiptooth frame.
I found the frame in http://oldroads.com/ pict data base.
The date is from their serial # chart..
The Huffman serial # are a little sketchy.
I also found the same frame in a 41 Huffman catalog at http://www.nostalgic.net/search/catalog.htm
I rebuilt the New Departure front hub and New Departure model D coaster brake.
The 60 year old grease had turned to a tar consistentsy

I also added a New Departure Triplespeed conversion unit to the model D
coaster brake.

These things are rare I have found little to no information about
this conversion on the net. It’s a neat little unit. You just change out the original
driver with three speed housing. I found the pieces for this three speed mixed
into several boxes at a sale a good friend of mine had(he was cleaning house of
some bikes and parts). All the parts came from that sale except the pedals,
handle bar stem(I know it’s from a road bike), and the kick stand.
This is the finished bicycle. I could not have asked it to turn out any better.

Since it did not have a head badge, I found this old tag
from an old boiler control. And that is where the name came from.
It just looks like it belonged there as a head badge.

And this is my license plate

I finished her in about two week’s time. What a joy that first ride was.
And she is an awesome rider.

Got to give a special THANK YOU to Don(aka dos crusier).
With out his collection of old parts this bike would have
taken months or years to complete.
Oh and Don, by the way thanks for naming her.

Super Nice!!! Cool bike and rare ND rear hub. Your rear licence plate was made by the The Automatic Sprinkler Company which had a manufacturing plant in Guntersville Alabama at one time. Thanks!!!

Mike, Looks like you made a big hit with the Boiler Maker. I'm glad I could be of assistance to your bike addiction, not like it was real hard. Now we need to find something more in my pile of junk to start a new project. I'll have to have come you over and give me a hand on my tandem, I think I found the fenders I want to use, but that means the old Schwinn maybe fenderless for a while. If you want to put Boiler Maker in the show, I'll watch over it for you. :D
