This is the first ride for the British Bicycling Club of Central New York.
The ride will be on Sunday the 26th of July. Set up time will be at 9:30am for hello and final tune up of bicycle. The ride will start at 10am at the Park and Ride off the thruway RT 90 and Rt 34 in Weedsport, NY. We will head east to Camillius on the Erie Canal bike path and return. At the turnaround point there might be a canal boat ride ($3) at Sims Country store. There will be a stop for snacks and for "Legal Drinks" in Jordan while we will picnic their park lands. The path is fine crushed gravel, but is flat most of the way.

Since this is our first trip a few rules are needed.
THIS IS NOT A RACE.
This is a casual ride through the countryside at a casual pace about 10 mph. We will stop and enjoy the sites and nature. You can stay with the group or go exploring by yourself or with a special friend.

Your bicycle should be a fine classic British 3 or 10 speed steed with working gears, good tyres and brakes. Dutch 3speeds or European 10 speeds are allowed but will not get you any points toward becoming one of Her Majesty's Royal Messengers. All other bicycles are welcome, but will be frowned upon and will not get points.

Helmets should be worn, but NO LYCRA. This is a ride in the best English fashion of the 30's through 50's. Tweeds, kilts, plus fours and a tie if you want for men. Dresses from the 30's to 50's or tweeds for those woman explorers. Check out your local thrift or second hand store for clothing ideas. Be creative.

Go to the dress code section of the following below for idea of what to wear to an English ride.

All riders should make sure that their bicycle is in good working conditions. Bring your own repair kits with a pump, patches or an extra tube. Most British 3 or 5 speeds have 26x1 3/8 inch tyres, while the 10 speeds have 27x 1 1/4 inch tyres. Drinks and snacks are your own choice. Baskets or saddle bags for carrying your own gear as there is no sag wagon or lorry. Flask or wine choice is up to you, if you want to have it with your lunch.

In August I would like to have another ride from downtown Oswego to the Rennisance Faire in Sterling, enjoy the Faire and return. With a Gravity Race and Pastry Joust just before entering the Faire. Hearty drinks are not served at the Faire before noon on Sunday. Got to do something to boost our energy while waiting.

I am alway looking for more ideas for rides. An early Sunday morning ride in the cities of Syracuse or Rochester. Evening pub challenge rides through Oswego or any other town that has a lot of bars in a small area. All the bars names are put in a hat. Someone will pull a name out of the hat and off we go to that bar for one drink. Repeat and repeat again.

NO RACING NO LYCRA
All bicyclist welcome
