i built this bike to do a 20 mile commute to the used bike shop i work at. it was built half from salvage, half cheap new parts.
I built it from a salvaged, rusted 1977 Rampar frame (i thought it looked older, and never heard of rampar, but the lugs were neat and it was my size)
the frame was stripped of all paint, rust & decals, then got a very time-consuming 2-tone rattle-can paint job with orange pinstripe.
It was intended to look 1930's style, but it has a Jockey-shift type setup under the seatpost.
The shifter and the derailleur are old shimano 600 parts. the brake lever and cable are odyssey.
I picked the brakes out of the used parts bin at our shop just cuz they say AltenBurger... i like burgers.
The cranks are brand new, cheap bronze anodized aluminum fixie cranks, but i had to change the sprocket to fit the 6 speed chain.
the bike has the original sized 27x 1 1/4" rear wheel in steel, with a front fork & wheel at the more modern size 700mmx23mm.
This was intended to give it a "leaning forward" look. the handlebars are mid-90's powerlite mini bmx bars.
It is set up as a simple 6-speed commuter, but its kinda awkward to ride at first. I've put over 100 miles in the last 10 days on it, and its holding up great!

Future plans- Brooks leather saddle & matching brooks bartape... lighter rear wheel, but still 27"

after sanding & cleaning the frame, time to prime...

after prime/wetsand, a few coats of rustoleum "sand" color gloss enamel, then 2 coats of rustoleum crystal clear enamel.
then, a ton of time "getting friendly with masking tape"

the final product is a reliable daily rider. it takes hills ok, it steers kinda weird, but thats what i was going for...

Question, where'd you get the brown cables, I need some for a rebuild I'm doing.

they are odyssey linear slic cables, this particular color is more "burnt orange" than brown, but they have made regular brown before.
it is a 5mm brake cable w/ a 5mm housing. i used the same housing to accomodate the shifter cable, which needed to be a little easy-going.

http://www.odysseybmx.com/catalog/braking/slic-kable/

-the brake cable itself was fully stretched, or "broken in" after about 50 miles. after re-tensioning it, its nice n snappy and has no unwanted stretching... nice cable

thanks for the info dude!

Cheers,
