As you can see I have got very little done on the Elgin

• Some reasons why?

• Procrastination
• Spent to much time in my head building instead of just building
• Fear of doing it wrong

• What I have learned

• Just build and have fun

• There is no wrong in RatRod building

• The ideas will come as you build

• What do I do now?

Well I could push and slap a working bike together out of the Elgin but I do have a plan that I like for this bike. And that would not be fun. Fun is the whole idea here.

So I hate to do this but I am going to use my one frame swap
This frame is a Monark that my uncle rode as a kid in the early fifties. Some time as a 14 or 15 year old kid in the early 80’s I took it apart. too restore it and just left it in pieces in my parents basement. A couple mounts ago I found some of the parts in there basement.
With just two weeks I will keep this simple leave the white house paint on the frame. I should have enough parts to get this together looking to have some fun

some of the parts i my or my not use

Re: "CHANGE OF PLANS" new frame UPDATE 7-18

Well I got some stuff done yesterday.I was planing to use a JC HIGGINS truss fork but fork was for a skinner tire.so I have this newer Schwinn that I got for free form a co-worker.
RRBO4006-1.jpg

fork fits
RRBO4007-1.jpg

early mock up was thinking of painting these rims red or white
RRBO4010.jpg

now I think I will go with this set of wheels with old school brush painted rims and New Departure hubs
RRBO4012.jpg

they even painted the tires and nipples
RRBO4013.jpg

mock up with two vintage Goodyears and monark crank

LOL!

I wouldn't paint the forks to match the rims. They would run together and the rims wouldn't stand out.
That is what I was thinking I will keep the fork white
Thanks guys

Re: "CHANGE OF PLANS" new frame UPDATE 7-28

Thanks Guys
I don't know what kind of bike the rack/light came from got it at a swap meet this spring it even still works :D
I rode it to work yesterday.10 miles round trip nothing feel off. (well the drywall screws holding the tank on were very loose when I got to work   )
Man that seat is low! I am 6ft tall sure it looks like the circus is in town.
well riding in traffic I guy in his late 60's in a S class Benz kept looking at me later he yelled at me to raise the seat. At the next light he told me it was a very cool bike.
hope to have tail light on in the morning
