Colson Resto Rod

I decided to enter the build off using a Colson in a bucket. This is how I bought the bike. It’s been repainted in places albeit poorly ish. There is also missing paint and house paint in places. My plan is to make it easier to ride than a typical Colson that rides like wet cement. Also clean up the paint situation some with out repainting everything.

Lovely gloopy house paint, maybe even with lead. The seat is really nice, I am actually quite jealous of it.

Ok I managed to get the house paint off of the frame and tank. I did a quick paint prep on the rest of the bike. I did find a small epoxy area on a small frame tube . I lucked out. I removed it and for once it wasn’t necessary.

I decided to try to match the frame and guard paint color to the rest of the bike. This bike had at least 3 colors of red /maroon going on. I matched the color pretty spot on using two cans of different color red and maroon paint . At the same time layered . This was a first for me but it seemed to work well overall. I only did missing paint areas for the most part . And the red on the fenders . I still want to blend a little paint on the front fender white . And there’s some wet sanding to do and repatina work.

I lucked out I had a orphan front fender for a fender upgrade.This was before I repainted the red paint.

Ok one step forward filling in the missing paint and making the bikes paint match yesterday . Today taking that shine off of the bike and bringing the bike back to a natural 1939- 40 Bike condition. And also fixing and matching the off white paint . That’s being sorted/ sanded to match patina tomorrow. Doing a repatina is tricky and time consuming. This bike had 25 percent of the paint missing from being sanded off on two of the frame tubes and hard hard as stone house paint on the tank and frame. Also the guard was missing a good amount of paint. Plus the bike was 50 percent repainted poorly. I was able to save the remaining original paint and make it match well enough. The last photos shows the work that it takes to do this . Lol And it’s still not done.
