Another "cool tool" shot. Using my derailleur hanger alignment tool to make sure the bolt-on hanger is lined up. These things can save a lot of aggravation if you work on multi-speed bikes with index shifting.

Well, the build itself isn't all that exciting compared to a lot of the others. I just added the tools to spice things up a bit...
Annnnnddd - it's a bike!
Well, sort of...
It's put together and set up enough so it starts, stops, shifts, and steers.
I skipped taking pictures of the rough assembly. Boring stuff like fitting the saddle, running the cables, installing the chain, and trying several bar and stem combinations.
I have an idea how it will ride and what stays and what needs replaced. The flat bars are all that I have that will work with the stem so they both need to go. I'm going with a 4 bolt BMX stem and cruiser bars in place of these. The fork spring is pretty much decoration. Not much springiness left in it. The pedals are loaners from another bike. That's the bad. The good is that shifting is spot on, the chainline looks good, the wheels roll smooth, the brakes have a nice feel - however I may use a different set of levers.
Although it looks like a mostly complete bike, there is still a lot to go...

I finally installed a non-bike part on this thing. I was having trouble finding a clamp that would hold the brake arm in place. Everything I had either wouldn't fit or twisted and bent during braking. I found this chunky pipe clamp at the hardware store and I don't expect any problems with this setup.
Fearing legal retaliation from Kingfish and his gang of high priced lawyers, I decided that having a BONINE bike in red housepaint with fat creme tires, a beefy fork, and drum brakes might not be the best idea. So now I'm back to this:
I'll at least change the color. Going to go the clearcoated bare metal route instead. Nobody has done one of those before, right?

Drat, I was looking for a big plea bargain deal. I knew if we made it to court, you would find out that my patent on old red house paint had expired two weeks before the build off.
Seriously though, your bike is looking sweet!!!! You could call it done from that assembled pic, but I look forward to the bare metal too.

It's pretty beat up under the thick red paint and I don't think there is any of the original paint left. Should have lots of nice "character marks" after it's stripped. We'll clear over those too!
I managed another "tool porn" shot while tearing this apart. This little guy holds the wrench snug against the thin flats of the fixed cup while you attempt to remove it. It bolts to the spindle and is a serious knuckle and finger saver. These are fairly expensive when they come up for sale but my amateur hand-modeling career is well worth the price...
