Is it possible to adapt these Oval Concepts 520 crankset onto an American style bottom bracket?

I got them for free and I have no idea what type of road/mtb bike they came off of or what type of bearing system they even use.

In my head I thought a euro adapter to whatever these bearings these run? Not sure if would be that easy.

Any info would be much appreciated it.

Found this in an online sales listing
"OVAL CONCEPTS 520 ROAD BIKE CRANKSET NEW / SHIPS IN 24HRS SPECIFICATIONS: Manufacturer: Oval Concepts / Praxis Model: 520 Spindle Type: 24/22mm (SRAM GXP Clone) Does not include bottom bracket Speed: 2 x 10/11s Length: See Title Mass: 758 grams (size 172.5mm) Condition: New, not in retail packaging Please note: Images and weight taken from size 172.5mm Compatibility notes: Uses GXP bottom brackets"

Well, I suppose it is possible to employ a euro adapter, then pair that arrangement with a compatible bottom bracket which, apparently, you don't yet have. I only see the cranks themselves in your photos. It would be an impressive kludge if you could pull it off.

That 24mm spindled crankset takes a "GXP" 24mm outboard bearing screw-in (english thread) external cartridge bearing Bottom Bracket. An american to english threaded adapter can be fitted to your frame and then these BB cups can be screwed in to the adapter but now the crank spindle may be too short? Maybe not. It may require a lot of 24mm spacers while you try to fit it. Problems may arise with the chain-line too as the screw-in external bb cups that fit that crank were never meant to mate to the euro adapter...you can only try. I think if you were able to install it with the spacers so there is no left/right play, it may push the crank too far to the right, causing chainline probs. The old style square tapered BB and cranks mate up better with that BB adapter..

I have a bike with the euro adapter, I’ll order a bracket and give it a shot.

I’ve been wanting to give my Columbia klunker a new look. Changing up the forks, stem and now maybe some new cranks.

You can sorta make out the adapter in the pic.

^^^^ Yes, agreed. To comprehend the bike industry, think about it this way...
1.) Money drives the industry.
2.) What works perfect now that we can change so consumers are forced to spend money to
have something unvetted that you are told is better? :D
Chuy...keep us posted on what you do here...I have been wondering whether you could pull it off as well...

I hope that it doesn't cost more to convert than a comparable set of readily compatible cranks would.

The parade of industry media promoted and unvetted junque is never ending. It would appear that most here are about circumventing the commercialism that the average media-fed consumers tend to gobble up.

Q: "Why aren't you running a dropper post?"

A: "Lulz"

I love square tapered cranks, there my go to if and when I ever have to replace a 1 piece crankset.

The cranks I got them for free form a neighbor who was cleaning out stuff from his garage, I also found a GXP bracket on Craigslist for $10. Not much coming out of pocket for this little test.

With that said I love old school parts for old school stuff, but it’s rat rod bikes so why not?

I’m actually thinking of making the klunker into a cyclo cross style. Build thread possibly coming soon.

I appreciate all the info, let’s see what happens.

I’ve had the bracket for a few days and I had some time today to tinker with my ride.

I removed the square taper and shimano bb.

Threw on the GXP bb.

Added the cranks and checked for clearance.

Good there!

My biggest concern was going to be the chainline.

Once that was good I knew I was golden. Removed a few links since I’m going from a 42/18 to a 36/18

Threw on my pedals and went for a ride.
It’s smooth, and I think it looks great.

My main goal is something similar to a gravel bike with some drop bars.
